He added he's "highly confident" the problems will be fixed before the Patriots game tomorrow.

New England One reports reporter investigative reporter Lauren Leamanczyk is leaving for a job on a Minneapolis station's equivalent of WBZ's I-Team. She's the 18th newsroom staffer to leave Channel 4 in a little more than a year.

Mark Katic, who started at WBZ in 1999 by filling in on sports reports, then moved to news reporting and anchoring, died today, colleagues say.

Lana Jones, a fellow NewsRadio reporter, tweeted:

Remembering a warm, generous man who brought insight and unbridled enthusiasm to the WBZ newsroom. Rest in peace, Mark Katic.

He leaves his wife and daughter.

Neumeier, who spent 20 years at WBZ before moving to CSNE, is in the hospital today after a stroke Wednesday night, WBZ reports.

The Boston Radio Interest mailing list alerts us a station signed on in Athol this morning as WWBZ on 700 kHZ, but is advertising itself as just "WBZ ... The Greatest Music of All Time."

The real WBZ is still at 1030 and is still bringing us traffic on the 3s.

WBZ announces it's giving Jen Brien the mike between midnight and 5 a.m.

"The Jen Brien Show" will be a mix of pop culture, current events, politics, and the comings and goings of people in New England. Brien replaces Steve LeVeille who retired last year.

Maybe the same person who thought it would be a good idea to have Williams and Lisa Hughes anchor the news while standing outside in the station parking lot. Williams, being a man's man, of course, just stood there without a hat. They finally got him back inside, and by the looks of things just in time - his face was bright red.

Firefighters rushed to Washington Street by JJ Brannelly's after lightning hit a transformer shortly before 5 p.m. Wires fell on a parked car and residences and businesses in the area lost power.

Willy got some video.

UPDATE: Jason Laramie reports the power came back around 5:50 p.m.

Not long after, Todd Gutner was going over the day's weather news on WBZ when lightning hit the station. Donna Halper reports:

WBZ announced today that the longtime overnight talk host is retiring at the end of the week. In a statement, WBZ NewsRadio Director of News and Programming Peter Casey said:

Steve called yesterday and informed me of his decision. Although it came as a surprise, I do know Steve enjoys his time in Maine and had always thought that he would retire there sometime. I just didn't think it would be this soon. Steve has been a tremendously creative broadcaster and friend to the overnight audience here at WBZ, and he will be missed.
