Cambridge Police report arresting a homeless man after, they say, he began "behaving oddly and spreading a considerable amount of a white-looking powder substance over a table" at a Central Square fast-food outlet around 10 a.m. on Friday. Read more.

Cambridge Day reports the owner of the Middle East complex in Central Square has put the complex up for sale - but that he hopes whoever buys it will keep the nightclub open.

The MBTA reports inbound delays of up to 10 minutes due to a dead train that has to be shoved out of the way at Central. Yael reports from Harvard that people are being told the problem is "debris" on the tracks at Central, which doesn't seem like a nice way to refer to one of the Red Line's old warhorses, unless maybe it didn't just die, but dropped some parts, too.

Emergency track work at Central

Lm3r reported from Central Square around 9:20 a.m. that several MBTA workers were down on the tracks, apparently installing a new metal thingee that connects one of the rails to the ties - about the same time the T was reporting Red Line delays of up to ten minutes due to track work at Central. Greg Cook reports the Oct. 27 "circle the block" event is not really an effort to get somebody to do something about that day's planned closing of Green Street Studios due to ever increasing rents as much as it is an effort to celebrate the place and the local dance community and to "say that we are here and there are a lot of us and sometimes you don’t see it."

Cambridge Police report they are investigating a string of street robberies this week in which people have been held up, at least once at knifepoint, in Mid-Cambridge north of Massachusetts Avenue: Read more.

Update: 8:50 p.m. After all first responders left the tracks, Red Line operators were given the OK to power the line back up.

Red Line service is at a halt, with shuttle buses trying to keep up with all the returning students, after somebody got on the tracks and then got a fatal jolt of electricity from the third rail around 7 p.m.

Cambridge Carnival is organizing a rally and meeting in support of the carnival on Wednesday starting at 6 p.m. at Cambridge City Hall. The city canceled the Sept. 8 carnival out of fears violence in Boston would spill over across the river. Read more.

Guy punched somebody in Cambridge

Cambridge Police have released surveillance video of a guy they say punched a 58-year-old man in the face while the two were in line at a Central Square fast-food place around 2:40 a.m. on June 14. Read more.

A roving UHub photographer reports somebody's been stenciling this message on sidewalks all over Central Square in Cambridge, adds:

Mermaids on parade in Cambridge

Greg Cook photographed the Mermaid Promenade down Mass. Ave. and Sidney Street in Cambridge on Saturday, part of the annual River Festival. Cook also came up with the idea for the parade, inspired by the annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade.

Cambridge Police report arresting two Boston 15-year-olds for gunfire in Central Square on the evening of May 13. Read more.

Cambridge Police report somebody fired at least one round at Pearl and Green streets in Central Square shortly before 6 p.m. No reports of anybody injured.

The gunfire comes after a person was shot in Harvard Square early Sunday.

New Zealand vigil at Cambridge City Hall

Greg Cook was one of several hundred people at a vigil for the victims of the latest white-nationalist mass murderer, this time in New Zealand. He listened as Farida Moustafa, a 16-year-old student at Cambridge Rindge and Latin said that it could just as easily have been her and her family there. He also watched as people kneeled to recite the evening prayer.
