Boston city archaelogist Joseph Bagley this week is scheduled to begin archaeological digs in front of Old City Hall on School Street - not in search of Curley's Desk, but in search of tidbits left over from the days when the land was the home of both Boston Latin School and Boston Latin School's schoolmaster.

Bagley will lead volunteers in digging a number of 16x1.5-foot test trenches in an attempt to find the foundations and yards of the schoolmaster's 17th-century home. In a statement, Bagley said: Read more.

The Harvard Gazette tells the story of some of the church bells across Cambridge that will be rung this morning after Harvard commencement.

Redcoats in Downtown Crossing, Boston

Even with just three members, His Majesty's regiment of foot so impressed the rebellious townspeople of Boston this afternoon that they declared the land reclaimed for the king without having to exchange a single volley.

Vertullo Building on Fairmount Avenue in Hyde Park

City officials joined with residents, new store owners and Historic Boston on Fairmount Avenue today to re-dedicate the Vertullo Building.

The building, which dates to 1868 - the year Hyde Park became a town - has space for five stores on the first floor and four apartments above. Historic Boston bought the building in 2011 and spent $1.3 million renovating it. Read more.

In April 1965, the Boston City Council was arguing over urban renewal plans for Charlestown.

Probably the only time a city councilor has called another one a "bald-headed s.o.b." at a public meeting (but not the only time someone has thought about it).

Edit: Thanks for the replies, guys.

Address: 126 E Howard St Quincy, Massachusetts (Don't know if this is close enough to Boston for you guys...)

Building's clearly abandoned and mostly boarded up, but the main entrance (amazingly) hasn't had all of its glass broken in yet. The way the upper floors look, seems like it was abandoned a long time ago, but from the first few floors it looks like a fresh closure.

I swear, why would nobody want to use it as the base of their new criminal empire? Looks defendable enough.

Unless it has some dark history inside...

UPDATE: Delvin Dixon, 40, of Charlestown, was arraigned on a charge of vandalism this afternoon. He was released on personal recognizance, but ordered to stay away from the Common until his case is resolved, the Suffolk County DA's office reports.

Somebody with a less than reverential view towards the past - not to mention Matthew Broderick - snapped off Robert Gould Shaw's sword from the 54th Massachusetts memorial across from the State House this morning.
