Prosecutors plan to seek prison time for a Winthrop man found guilty today of driving drunk and then attempting to use the bench he was chained to at a State Police barracks as a weapon against arresting officers.

Joseph Limone, 61, will be sentenced Feb. 21 following today's conviction by a jury in Suffolk Superior Court, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

"From what we've seen, nothing short of incarceration is going to keep this defendant off the road," District Attorney Dan Conley said in a statement. "We'll be seeking prison time."

A Woburn man with an apparent inability to drive sober faces a hearing tomorrow that could have him locked up without bail for 90 days on charges he drove drunk down Storrow Drive and the Harvard Bridge on Friday, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Thomas McCue, 42, was arrested early Friday after a State Trooper clocked him doing 85 m.p.h. on Storrow westbound before Mass. Ave:

The trooper signaled McCue to pull over as he exited onto the Massachusetts Avenue ramp from the middle lane.

A Jamaica Plain man with two drunk-driving convictions was charged with a third OUI offense after he allegedly disregarded a "No Turn on Red" sign in the Back Bay and hit and dragged a bicyclist in the crosswalk - then hit a cop as he was pulling over - the District Attorney's office reports.

Neither the bicyclist nor the Boston police officer were seriously hurt in the July 21 incident, the DA's office says.

ShelziJoseph Z. Shelzi, 22, of Pelham, NH, was arrested around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday in a courtyard off Charter St. after he and a female acquaintance allegedly tried to evade police at speeds of up to 70 m.p.h. down a series of streets, including Hanover Street.

Shelzi, whose license was already revoked and who is facing a drunk-driving charge in Lawrence, was allegedly driving his 2001 BMW 3-series car the wrong way down a one-way street near State and Congress streets when a detail cop spotted him heading into ongoing traffic, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office:

UPDATE: Supreme Judicial Court overturns Appeals Court ruling, says cop did nothing wrong and the conviction stands.

The Massachusetts Appeals Court ruled today an off-duty Somerville cop had no right to take a guy's keys away after the guy rear-ended him in Woburn, apparently under the influence.
