WBZ introduces us to Uwa Lawrence, a landlord in the Roslindale/Mattapan area who is allegedly horrible enough to remove the windows, doors and circuit breaker on a cold February day from a unit whose tenant he wanted to get out.

Xfinity trash

A disgusted citizen reports:

Beacon Hill was littered with these flyers today, both public and private property. Flyers were thrown in vestibules and taped in entryways as well as on light posts. Name of perpetrator is on flyer, please contact and fine.

Eeka, who has a Capital One debit card, reports she discovered this morning the bank has decided to block the card's use in parts of Boston due to fraud reasons. Only problem is, they won't tell her where she can use her card"

They're unable to tell me anything about which ATMs and stores are and are not flagged, because it's sensitive data. They won't even tell me the location of one ATM that is allowing transactions to go through. She told me to drive around and try ATMs in different areas. Which, if I didn't have to work, I could. I already haven't been able to buy lunch or pay for parking where I'd intended to park. Fortunately, I have enough gas in my car for today. She told me she can't tell me how long they block transactions in an area. She couldn't even confirm whether their own ATMs in their stupid cafes worked, and said those would get flagged too if there was fraud in the area.

Globe Direct to go

Mobile as in, hey, if we toss it on a car roof, that makes it mobile, right?

A Roslindale resident (who reports he wouldn't miss the city council's Globe Direct hearing for the world) reports he came home the other day to find one Globe Direct on a neighbor's car roof and another that either missed its mark or fell off somebody's roof when they drove off.

South Boston Today on the streets of South Boston

A concerned citizen complains:

"South Boston Today" newspapers litter the streets with trash. They are thrown about throughout the neighborhood. Why are they allowed to put garbage on the street and not be fined?

Fireworks ad in Mattapan

And why would a billboard owner let them?

This billboard sits at the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Morton Street in Mattapan. There's another one in Jamaica Plain.

At a meeting earlier this week, Boston city councilors vowed to call Globe Direct to account for its litterin' ways. When they call their hearing, though, maybe they need to reserve some time to talk about the behavior of Globe Direct delivery people. A Roslindale resident reports on an incident yesterday:

I was sitting in my house on Cummins Highway (by Sacred Heart) watching TV when I heard someone yelling "I've got to take a piss!" I look outside and see an older gentleman with no shirt on walking down along side my house, drop 6-7 Globe Direct bundles and take a piss behind my garage! I couldn't believe it but couldn't get to my phone in time to get a picture. I screamed at him and he took off heading down towards Roslindale Square.

Phone books by the side of the road

An annoyed citizen complains about the scene on Mt. Vernon Street on Beacon Hill:

Verizon phone books left on street; who uses them anyway!!!!

By adamg - 5/23/14 - 9:46 am

No, not Globe Direct, but Restoration Hardware, which has mailed out 17-pound bundles of catalogs to people in Boston's tonier neighborhoods, i.e., not the sort of places you'd think would be sullied by Globe Direct circulars.

H/t EL Connolly.

What happens when you leave Globe Directs in the street

What happens when Globe Directs wind up in the street, get wet and then run over.

Well look at this: The Cambridge Department of Public Works reports (bottom item) it's managed to get John Henry's little circular company to agree to stop befouling the city:

Due to concerns raised about unwanted deliveries, excessive deliveries and plastic bags, the company has instituted the following changes regarding their weekly advertising circular:

Bad job by recycling guy in Mattapan

A disgusted citizen complains on Walk Hill Street in Mattapan:

Once again recycle man placed empty bin in front of driveway WHILE I WAS EXITING the driveway. He looked up at my car and placed it there. This is ridiculous.

To drop off some of the Globe Direct bags that keep getting dumped on our porch no matter how many times I contact Globe Direct to ask them to stop. If you live in Roslindale, West Roxbury or Hyde Park and have some of your own bags, let me know. I've got plenty of room in my car for a collection to give back to the Globe.

Siderea was not happy when the Porter Square Star Market charged her $2.89/lb for chicken that was advertised on sale at $1.79. She was even less happy after the cashier argued with her, told her to visit the (closed) customer service desk, and then re-rung the purchase at various prices ranging from $3.11/lb to $3.97/lb.

Now she's wondering who else has been ripped off -- and judging from the comments on her LiveJournal post, quite a few other people are unhappy with Star Market, in Porter Square and elsewhere. She helpfully links to the relevant state law and explains how to file a complaint.
