New cars coming to Wellington

Miniature Bumblebee spotted a fresh Orange Line car arriving on a flatbed at the Wellington yard this morning, presumably from the new CRRC assembly plant in Springfield.

The two initial test cars, shipped direct from China, have become a familiar sight on the normally unused third Orange Line track north of Boston. The MBTA says it hopes to begin putting the new cars into passenger service starting at year's end.

At 7:37 a.m., the T reported that it had fixed signal problems at Oak Grove and that "regularly scheduled service" had resumed. At 8:46, Kristen W reported: Nope.

Signal problems at Wellington are jamming up Orange Line platforms as trains slow to a crawl. David Christopher reports he's at Wellington, where he watched helplessly as two completely full trains pulled in and then left, with no room for anybody to get on.

New Orange Line cars at Wellington

Roving Uhub photographer Ben Themo spotted a pair of the brand-spanking-new Orange Line cars just chilling on some tracks next to the Orange Line shops at Wellington today. They'll eventually be put through their paces in months and months of testing on the revamped third set of tracks north of Boston before being placed into actual service for long suffering Orange Line riders.

Some sort of track problem has disabled the Orange Line between Wellington and Community College, so the T is running buses instead.

An Orange Line train breathed its last at Wellington and even though workers got it out of sight, it's still causing "moderate" delays, the MBTA reports.

The MBTA reports the first four new Orange Line cars from Chinese manufacturer CRRC arrived in South Boston this morning, from where they will be transported to the Orange Line maintenance facility in Wellington for a year of testing and shakedown runs before they are put in service. Read more.

Anthony Scaramucci, whose tenure as White House communications director ended not long after he mused about Steve Bannon's physical flexibility, is deeply offended by a pair of columns in the Tufts Daily, enough to threaten a lawsuit if the Daily doesn't retract the columns and apologize for calling him "an unethical opportunist and who exuded the highest degree of disreputability" and "a man who makes his Twitter accessible to friends interested in giving comfort to Holocaust deniers."

If you really want to recreate the famous song, you'll have to cross over the Mystic River in Medford and head for the house that still stands at 114 South St. When Lydia Maria Child wrote the song, as part of the book, Flowers for Children, in 1845, she was recalling her childhood visits to her grandfather's house there. State transportation planners working on the long delayed plans to extend the Green Line past Lechmere will recommend next week that the MBTA hire a consortium of companies to do the work, at a potential cost of no more than $1.1 billion - on top of what the state's already spent on the work.
