Officials credit stepped up patrols by Northeastern cops in the neighborhood on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, plus counseling for off-campus students on how not to be jerks, according to the Huntington News, which reports officials made the assertions at a "town hall meeting" on community relations to which community residents were not invited.

Happened shortly before 6 p.m. at Hillside and Sunset streets. The homicide and accident-reconstruction units were called in due to the severity of her injuries. First responders had some trouble getting to the scene due to the slippery roads.

Prevailing sentiment in progressive haunts is “2016, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.” Between a stressful election season, acts of terror, and the crisis in Syria, many of us will be glad to see the calendar page turn on Sunday night. Still, to every cloud there is a silver lining, and at least when it comes to tackling climate change in the US, Massachusetts was a bright spot amidst the clouds of 2016.

The Boston Fire Deparment reports several people at the Manville School, 53 Parker Hill Ave., took ill this morning when somebody took an overheating phone charger into a restroom and poured water on it, resulting in fumes. Read more.

Around 530 p.m., a motor vehicle got up close and personal with both a bus and an E-Line trolley. Extensive damage to the car; no injuries. The Green Line is now suspended between Brigham Circle and Heath Street; riders are supposed to hop on a 39 bus instead.

The Santander Bank branch at 6 Francis St. was held up around 4 p.m. by a black man wearing a black hat, black sunglasses and a green jacket. Last spotted running up Tremont Street. He may be the same guy who held the bank up on Sept. 19; police suspect he's also responsible for other recent bank robberies.

Boston Police report arresting a Roxbury man for an attempted rape in Fitzgerald Park Saturday afternoon.

Jose Cepeda, 32, was charged with indecent assault and battery and intent to rob, police say.

Around 3 p.m. in McLaughlin Playground. Police are looking for two men, both black, both in their 20s, both 5'7" or 5'8" and skinny. One wore a red bandana, one had hair dyed blonde. They took the victim's green backpack. They ran down Bucknam Street towards Heath.
