Update: Board concludes Cavan Cafe did nothing wrong.

A man who got married on June 23 agreed to go out with a friend for a celebratory drink that night. They wound up at the Cavan Cafe, 1464 Hyde Park Ave. in Hyde Park - where the two got stabbed in the parking lot by a guy who followed them out after they left, not long after they arrived, then decided to call it a night. Workers from DCR, who put down a string of boulders across one of the few remaining parking lots in Stony Brook Reservation on Friday will remove them today - and pick up the trash that led them to put them there - state Rep. Rob Consalvo (14th Suffolk) says, adding that ISD will join the trash picker uppers to see if they can identify who dumped the trash and possibly fine them. Read more.

Update: State rep says the lot will be re-opened today.

DCR, which has been hauling boulders into Stony Brook Reservation for years to close off parking space, this weekend shut off access to a small parking lot on Enneking Parkway that provided access to the main paved path that circles around the reservation forest and Turtle Pond. Read more.

The Walgreens on Hyde Park Avenue in Hyde Park, across from the Blake Estates senior-citizen apartments, is closing its doors forever on Nov. 9, according to the Hyde Park group on Facebook.

Fortunately for Blake Estates residents and other nearby carless folks, the Shaw's on the other side of a parking lot from the Walgreens, has a pharmacy.

Boston firefighters responded to 1172 Hyde Park Ave. at Webster Street in Hyde Park for an attic fire around 11:30 a.m. Declared knocked down at 11:50.

A man from Staten Island and six Boston-area men were arrested today on money-laundering and cocaine-distribution charges based in part on evidence obtained by a group of FBI agents and informants posing as their own Latin American cocaine-money laundering ring, according to documents unsealed in Boston federal court today. MassDOT told Hyde Park residents last night they're going to have to keep detouring around the bridge over the train tracks through Cleary Square until at least spring, 2025, which is the earliest officials say they can have a new River Street bridge built. Read more.

Van and gasoline tanker

The driver of a van plowed into a gasoline tank truck on Hyde Park Avenue at the Akiki gas station around 3:30 a.m., the Boston Fire Department reports. No explosion, but 50 to 60 gallons of fuel leaked onto the street. The station was still shut, a cleanup crew still on scene, at 9:30 a.m.

Acela train about to go under bridge

Part of the problem: All the trains leave little time for repair work.

MassDOT says the River Street bridge in Cleary Square is beyond repair, so it's started work on designing its complete replacement - with preliminary plans hopefully available for the public to look at in the first quarter of 2023. Read more.

A developer's proposal to replace the old Laughlin Nichols Pennacchio Funeral Home at 34 Oak St. in Hyde Park with a three-story, 20-unit apartment building was defeated today when only got four votes from the Zoning Board of Appeal - state law requires at least five votes. Read more.

The Boston Public Health Commission reports that Turtle Pond in Stony Brook Reservation has high levels of blue-green algae, or cyanobacteria, that could kill any dogs that swim in the pond and ingest enough of the stuff, either by drinking the water or by licking themselves after a swim. A Hyde Park man who admitted he was part of a ring that swindled women between 50 and 80 by pretending to be Army officers overseas was sentenced yesterday to 32 months in federal prison and ordered to pay restitution of $686,264, the US Attorney's office in Boston reports. Read more.
