The politest intersection in Boston

Boston's only polite intersection? Maybe that's what happens when you put an intersection in the middle of a forest. Mike Ball hails the intersection of Enneking, Turtle Pond and Dedham parkways deep in the woods of Stony Brook Reservation, where drivers not only obey the four-way stop but are actually courteous to one another:

... Could it be something in the oxygen from all the foliage? Might some nearby unknown native American burial ground be affecting Bostonians as they arrive at the intersection? Would the bucolic nature of the park all around calm the savages?

The cause is far less important than the mere existence of the magic intersection. ...

That's just offal: Internal organs found in Readville parking lot do not appear to be human, police say

Boston Police report workers at one of the companies at the former Stop & Shop warehouse in Readville called police last night to report "what appeared to be internal organs on the ground."

A medical examiner was called in and declared the heart, lungs and esophagus not human, but took the organs for further study.

The MBTA reports a plainclothes transit cop arrested two teenagers on charges they etched something on the window of a 32 bus in Hyde Park this afternoon.

Where would you put a movie studio in Boston?

As first reported here, councilors Murphy and Linehan want to look at building a movie production facility in Boston. The Herald reports developer Tim Pappas may already be on the case and scouting land off Summer Street past the South Boston convention center.

Jay Fitzgerald suggests the 500 block of Harrison Avenue:

... There's an abandoned brick warehouse/garage around there that has an old stately look to it – and I've always wondered why it hasn't been converted into a theater or condos or something. ...

I'd propose a third possibility: The old Stop & Shop warehouse off Neponset Valley Parkway in Readville. It's a huge, now mostly dormant facility, with plenty of room for expansion. It's not that far from 128 and it has its own rail spur for Tom or Ben's private train.

Perpetually closed Hyde Park restaurant owes city $300,000

The Hyde Park Bulletin reports the owner of C.F. Donovan's, which has been nearing completion for a couple years now, is in default on two loans to the BRA's Boston Local Development Corp.

In June, C.F. Donovan's was fined for failing to use its liquor license; it's scheduled for a November hearing before the Boston Licensing Board to explain the continued non-use of what is considered a scarce resource (the board has told two West Roxbury restaurants they can't get liquor licenses because none is currently available).

Hyde Park getting fourth supermarket

In a development project that's actually happening, construction is now proceeding at a snappy pace at the new mall going up where the old paperboard plant used to be on River Street, near the Mattapan line. And there's now a "coming soon" sign for a PriceRite supermarket. It'll join the Shaw's and Americas' Food Basket, both on Hyde Park Avenue, and the baby Stop & Shop on Truman Parkway.
