Early morning crash kills one, injures four in Readville

State Police report a crash at Hyde Park Avenue and Milton Street around 2:40 a.m. killed the driver of one car and sent four occupants of the other car to the hospital.

State Police said the dead driver was a 24-year-old Hyde Park man. No charges have yet been filed and the crash remains under investigation.

Councilor: City could raise hundreds of thousands of dollars by putting ads on city Web sites

City Councilor Rob Consalvo (Hyde Park, Roslindale, Mattapan), today proposed slapping advertising on city Web sites, including library and school sites - and even the site run by the city's public-housing authority.

Consalvo says cityofboston.gov got 6.8 million visits last year, the BPS site some 4.7 million.

With this kind of traffic, the city and the BPS could potentially raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in recurring revenue from advertising on these Web sites as well as advertising on associated city Web sites such as the Boston Public Library, the Boston Public Health Commission, the Boston Water and Sewer Commission, the Boston Redevelopment Authority and the Boston Housing Authority.

Consalvo said he would want to see "strong content review" to ensure inappropriate ads are not run (Ed. note: Darn, there go the plans to capture some of the MBTA's liquor-ad sales by putting beer ads on school-lunch menus).

However, the city might have to leave its flagship site out of any ad solicitations. The US General Services Administration, which handles registration of .gov sites, such as cityofboston.gov, bars advertising:

A Gov Internet domain may not be used to advertise for private individuals, firms, or corporations, or imply in any manner that the government endorses or favors any specific commercial product, commodity, or service.

The prohibition does not apply to sites that are run with other domains, such as bpl.org, bostonpublicschools.org and fatsmack.org.

Boston Restaurant Talk reports Townsend's on Fairmount Avenue has ceased to be.

Meanwhile, Rincon Caribeno down the block goes before the Boston Licensing Board on Wednesday for permission to serve liquor with meals. Also scheduled for Wednesday: A hearing on a proposed liquor store at 59 Fairmount, to be called Fairmount Wine and Spirits. The store would be sort of kitty-corner from the failed Albert Winestein.

Hyde Park market held up at gunpoint

Diana's Market, 1070 Hyde Park Ave., was held up around 9 p.m. by two men with a silver gun, who then ran down Arlington Street toward Central.

The suspects are described as Hispanic. One was about 6'1" and 200 lbs. and wearing a gray leather jacket. The other was about 5'6" and clad in dark clothes. They made off with cigarettes, lottery tickets and cash.

Violent pimp has gun charges overturned because police did not record his statements

The Massachusetts Appeals Court today tossed a Hyde Park man's gun-related convictions because police did not record his claim that his roommate actually owned the gun they found in his apartment - even though he told police he didn't care if they recorded his statements.

Mayor's neighborhood on alert for somebody breaking into elderly residents' homes

District E-18 reports that over the past couple of weeks, several homes owned by elderly people in Dedham and Readville along River Street have been broken in at night - while the residents were at home.

Boston Police say both they and Dedham Police have stepped up patrols on either side of the town line in the normally quiet area - where Mayor Menino lives.

He spent a weekend in Readville overnight

Bill managed to get on one of the trains actually moving between New York and Boston last night. Then a tree fell against the overhead wires in Readville around 11 p.m., caught fire and brought the Northeast Corridor to a halt again, with powerless trains just sitting on the tracks for almost 90 minutes. He reports:

The teen, at 16 too young to have his name released, had been corresponding with the deaf ]woman for about three months when she agreed to meet him in Hyde Park, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

BPS had millions of reasons to move something into the old Hyde Park High School

36 million, to be exact. Seems the city won a large grant from the state to renovate the school - scheduled to be paid out through 2019 - and the state doesn't like having its money wasted for repairs to buildings that get shut down. Take a look at this letter from the Massachusetts School Building Authority to Boston School Superintendent Carol Johnson back in June, which mentions several schools, but singles out the building last known as the Hyde Park Education Complex:

In 1999, the City received approval for a grant for a renovation project at Hyde Park School. To date, the MSBA has paid $23,383,012 to the City for the Hyde Park High School and there is a total of $12,664,978 remaining in grant payments which the MSBA is scheduled to pay in annual installments through fiscal year 2019. Due to the closure of this facility, however, the MSBA may consider putting a hold on the remaining payments for this project and recouping a portion of funds that have already been paid to the City for this project, pending the City's future plans for the facility.

Man charged with attempted gang murder in Readville has link to murder of gang peacemaker in 2006

Jerome Brady, arrested this week on charges he put several bullets into an alleged member of Roxbury's H Block gang on a quiet Readville street, served 18 months in prison for illegal possession of the guns authorities say were used to gun down H Block leader Jahmol Norfleet in 2006, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office confirms.

Police: Readville shooter arrested in Atlanta

Boston Police report arresting Jerome Brody, 24, in connection with a September shooting that left a man near death on a normally quiet Readville street.

Brody was arrested with the help of U.S. marshals and will be returned to Boston to face charges of assault with intent to murder, assault and batter by means of a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with a Sept. 8 attack in which the victim was shot eight or nine times on Millstone Street, police say.

Javann Hall of Dorchester was arrested two days after the attack. At his arraignment, prosecutors described Hall as the driver, not the shooter, and said the shooter was a member of the Orchard Park gang out to get the victim, an alleged member of the H Block gang, both in Roxbury.
