A task force assembled by the mayor says Boston nightlife would be improved by letting downtown restaurants and bars keep serving alcohol past the current state-mandated limit of 2 a.m. - and by letting people on outdoor patios order drinks without having to get food to go with them. Read more.

MBTA North Station Fire Chaos Evening Rush Hour 1/26/16

Wicked C captured the scene around 4:15 p.m. yesterday when a small fire broke out under the edge of the inbound Orange Line platform, the T workers couldn't quite see it to aim a fire extinguisher at it and then a particularly vocal guy from the outbound platform jumped onto the tracks to point it out to them (around 1:40 in the video), which the T workers did not seem to appreciate.

Vague talk about doing something about the rusted out old Northern Avenue Bridge one of these years has suddenly become a more focused goal of city officials now that GE is moving to the South Boston Waterfront; the Globe reports officials made fixing the bridge part of their pitch to GE and seem confident they can come up with the money to fix it up.

Pedestrians told to use sidewalk in Downtown Crossing

UPDATE: This post is proof of Betteridge's Law and the fact that I can be awfully unobservant since the signs have been there for 7 months and are only related to the Tower construction.

This sign recently popped up in Downtown Crossing (along with a twin at Summer and Winter). A signal of the city's intentions, or just a temporary measure until Millennium Tower is finished? In either case, many hardened Bostonian pedestrians were paying the sign no heed yesterday.
