We're trying to bring the award-winning documentary Can You Dig This to Boston. The film will be shown at the Loews Boston Common at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 1 -- but only if at least 125 people reserve tickets by Friday.

Cloth elephant on the move in South Boston

Payette, a Congress Street architectural-design firm, designed itself Pearl the elephant as part of a circus-themed display at the International Interior Design Association's fall New England fashion show earlier this month. Yesterday, staffers wheeled Pearl over to the South Boston convention center for the Architecture Boston Expo.

NorthEndWaterfront.com reports the Boston Civic Design Commission has approved the $258-million first building in a proposed mixed-use development on what is now a parking lot in front of the Boston Garden's blank front wall.

The first building would include, among other things, a Star Market. Later parts of what would be a $1-billion project will include residential and office towers.

Savvy going-out-of-business-sales fans know the deep discounts don't start the first day - and even when they do, be wary, because liquidation pros sometimes mark stuff up first so they don't lose out that much when they mark it down.

The Boston Licensing Board today gave Roche Bros. a packie license for its new Downtown Crossing store.

At a hearing yesterday, Roche Bros. President Gary Pfeil told the board that the chain held a number of focus groups with current downtown residents and workers and discovered that people enjoying life in the heart of the city have a different way of entertaining guests: They're more likely to have parties with cocktails and appetizers than sit-down dinners. Sure, the Army does some very good work. But do us all a favor and wait another six weeks before ringing your bells.
