Prevailing sentiment in progressive haunts is “2016, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.” Between a stressful election season, acts of terror, and the crisis in Syria, many of us will be glad to see the calendar page turn on Sunday night. Still, to every cloud there is a silver lining, and at least when it comes to tackling climate change in the US, Massachusetts was a bright spot amidst the clouds of 2016.

The T says it's gotten the deceased train off the tracks, but that sort of thing always means residual delays and extra jammed cars. Sutter reports:

Passenger on the platform @ Wollaston asked if we can move in a little more. Everyone in the car said "NO." in unison.

The Supreme Judicial Court ruled today that a Quincy man whose marijuana-possession conviction was set aside because the pot had been tested by infamous result forger Annie Dookhan can't get back the $830 in probation and victim-assistance fees he paid after he initially pleaded guilty. Read more.

"Moderate" delays between Quincy Center and Braintree, the T advises. Its passing comes about 30 minutes after the T reported "minor" delays inbound on the Ashmont branch due to signal problems.

I'm an unaffiliated progressive voter in the Boston area. Like many, I was inspired by Bernie Sanders in the primaries, and furious when it was confirmed that the Democratic Party stacked the deck against him in order to nominate Hillary Clinton. My fury only increased when Clinton, and the Democratic Party generally, failed to win a race against one of the worst presidential candidates in history.

The Supreme Judicial Court decided today it will not break a below-market-rates lease between Quincy and the local historical society for a building on land originally owned by John Adams, even though that deprives a beneficiary of Adams's largesse of revenue.

Yes, a train is dead on the Red Line somewhere between JFK/UMass and Braintree and now the T is warning of "moderate" delays in both directions.

Kevin was just minding his own business, riding the Red Line down towards Braintree when the train breathed its last and stopped shortly before 5 p.m. in that vast no-man's land between JFK/UMass and North Quincy - after the driver announced "he is having problems 'moving the train.' "

Rumor has it Adele is going to do an impromptu concert there. Transit Police say the rumor is false:

Adele is NOT showing up to Quincy T station. She is playing at TD Garden only.

A train is so dead between Braintree and Quincy Adams that the T is now running shuttle buses. On the Green Line, meanwhile, an E trolley has expired at Government Center.
