South End brunch comes to Roslindale

Geoffrey's Cafe on Washington Street opened for brunch yesterday (the Rosi-Kessels were the very first customers), so we made a point of heading down to the Square this morning.

Good food and so, so different from what long-time Rozzie residents could expect from breakfast at the old Roslindale standby - the Blue Star on Corinth. And yes, it's the same Geoffrey's that used to be in the South End and Back Bay.

Time to grab a bite

Marc salivates at the thought of another burger at Zon's in Jamaica Plain, and says it's a shame that Grotto on Beacon Hill is so hidden.

Lynne is disappointed with the service at EVOO in Somerville, but says the New American food, when it finally comes, is good.

The Missus reports that the food at Pops Restaurant on Tremont Street in the South End is OK, but uninspired - it's like eating in any other South End restaurant:

... It's a great date place though. Similar to Tremont 647. ...

Dan Housman reports that Gari, a new Japanese "fusion" place on Harvard Street in Brookline, is decent enough, but it's really just another Japanese restaurant:

... I just wish they would do something crazy like put jalapeno peppers and plum sauce onto the sushi somewhere in the menu and highlight some wicked saki drinks. ...

Suzie writes the nachos at Sunset Bar and Grill in Allston are amazing.

Third Decade is on a quest for the perfect brunch. The Ashmont Grill in Dorchester is not one of his finalists.

Eat and Destroy says if you want delicious greasy food and cheap beer, Costello's in Jamaica Plain is for you.

Minty Choco Chip raves about Ten Tables in Jamaica Plain - although the waiters should maybe pay more attention to the diners than to the no doubt fascinating discussion with the guys in the kitchen.

Is Boston ready for a $50 omelet?

The Missus reports that Tremont 647 has added a new item to its Sunday pajama brunch: An omelet that costs $50:

... It's an omelet with fois gras, shrimp and lobster. Very decadent. ...

Not so lucky lounge

Third Decade liked the jazz and crowd at Lucky's Lounge in Fort Point, but says poor service and food more than cancelled that out.

A smorgasbord of restaurant reviews

Lynne says Dante in Cambridge offers good Mediterranean food to go with some great views.

Jen Langley says El Pelon in the Fenway has the best tacos I've ever had.

Boston Restaurant Talk: Decent Boneless Buffalo Wings at Donohue's in Watertown

Dave Alpert says The Grill in Brockton (yes) has the best ribs in the Boston area.

Michelle says she won't be returning to Tin Alley Grill in Framingham due to the stench from the kitchen on a recent visit.

Chris and Erin love brunch at the Ashmont Grill in Dorchester.

Eat and Destroy says Le's in Harvard Square isn't as good as other Vietnamese joints, but it's cheap.

Bridey says Shawarma King in Brookline has lackluster shawarma and is just not in the same league as Rami's.

Matthew C. Smith: Al's State Street Cafe ... the BEST place for a cheap sub during lunch.

Yoave Shapira says Sauciety at the Westin next to the convention center is fun but hardly among the top 50 restaurants in the city. They offer only a small number of entrees but a large number of sauces (hence the name) to put on them.

Where not to go for brunch in Dedham

If you want your basic all-you-can-eat Sunday brunch buffet, just stay away from the Olde Irish Alehouse. For $5 more per person and five minutes more on the road, you can get to Picadilly Pub, which has way, way, way more selections, French toast that is actually warm and decent service.
