In 1992, Althea Garrison was elected a state rep in Roxbury, the first time a trans person had ever won election to a state legislature. She didn't tell anybody about that though and never discussed it, not even after the Herald outed her - at a time when coming out as trans could mean being murdered. In September, she discussed the issue publicly for the first time in an interview with Kate Sosin of the 19th. Read more.

The city is out with a comparison of two basic approaches for improving Blue Hill Avenue between Mattapan Square and Grove Hall - a massive re-build with construction of dedicated bus lanes and a more modest plan with a massive increase in traffic enforcement by police - and says it expects Mayor Wu to announce a final plan for the road by the end of the year. Boston Police report they are looking for Princess and the guy they say stole her from the Washington Park Mall, MLK Boulevard and Warren Street in Roxbury, on Friday.

Catherine Leavy of Westfield yesterday pleaded guilty to two federal counts for calling in a bomb threat to Children's Hospital on Aug. 30, 2022 as part of a wave of threatened violence against the hospital and its doctors spurred by online transphobes making fake claims that the hospital was mutilating children. The team that won a professional women's soccer franchise for Boston tonight sketched out a preliminary transportation plan for roughly 20 home games a year at a renovated White Stadium in Franklin Park that could include shuttle vans from for-fee parking areas in more remote areas in places, possibly as far away as areas near Rte. 128, I-93 near the Neponset and north of Jackson Square. The Crimson reports Harvard will rename its medical school for the first person to give it $1 billion - although the money would have to come with no restrictions.

In contrast, Harvard renamed its public-health school after somebody for just $400 million.

Thebostonlol spotted this early fall display on a manhole cover in Roxbury yesterday.

The EEI means the cover was originally installed by the Edison Electric and Illuminating Co., a forerunner to today's Eversource, and the one-time owner of a radio station with the call letters WEEI - one of the oldest stations in the country.
