Jay Severin to return to the airwaves; promises to stop saying hurtful things

By adamg - 5/30/09 - 1:56 pm

Dan Kennedy reports on Jimmy Severino's return.

Jay Severin goes too far: Kicked off the air for cracks about Mexicans

By adamg - 4/30/09 - 4:43 pm

The Globe reports WTKK suspended Jimmy Severino today for saying something awful about Mexicans and swine flu this week. Exactly what, however, the Globe doesn't say Globe posts some audio. Down in New York, El Diario La Prensa fills in that gap:

... For Severin, Mexicans are "criminaliens" and primitives who export venereal diseases to the United States. The shock jock referred to the strain of flu as "swine-aka-Janet Napolitano flu."

That's not the end of Severin's anti-immigrant rants. Immigrants are leeches and their children, he warns, don't speak English, will retard schools, add to crime and spread disease. Amid all of this, Severin has the audacity to state, "I don't mean to hype the story." ...

El Diario La Prensa details his comments even more in this post in Spanish - basically, Severin said it's not Mexicans' fault they're wild, uneducated savages who don't get their kids vaccinated, he's only stating the facts, and one of those facts is that those kids who got the flu in New York got it from illegal Mexicans.

Michael Graham's Campaign Training Event Thing Shindig

By GarrettQuinn - 4/25/09 - 9:01 am

Red Mass Group is streaming Michael Graham's campaign training event live.

Jimmy Severino is a tad touchy

By adamg - 3/18/09 - 12:24 pm

Did Imus really threaten to gun him down in cold blood? Good for ratings, if nothing else.

Jim Braude doesn't need a car to be a Masshole

By adamg - 2/15/09 - 7:50 pm

Anne reports on a Braude sighting in Central Square yesterday:

Walking around Central Square this morning, saw Jim Braude illegally cross Mass Ave and hold up several cars that had the right of way. What was worse was that he was limping, causing him to walk even more slowly than usual, so a couple of cars didn't make the light thanks to him. ...

Earlier:
Braude almost causes international incident; nearly gets shot by Secret Service.

WTKK host tossed in the pokey on traffic charges

By adamg - 2/13/09 - 4:44 pm

Michael Graham charged with running red light, driving with a revoked license in Framingham, according to Jessica Heslam, who also posts Graham's statement on how it's all Rachel Kaprelian's fault, because under her command, the Registry no longer sends out notices of revocation, and he didn't know.

Innocent, etc.

Why you should listen to Michael Graham this morning

By adamg - 12/12/08 - 12:10 pm

Radiothon to support construction of a place for wounded veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan in West Roxbury.

More on Fisher House.

Jim Braude, ultimate Masshole

By adamg - 11/13/08 - 5:53 pm

How many Massholes can truthfully state they almost caused an international incident - and almost got taken out by a Secret Service sniper protecting the life of the British prime minister? Not content to merely be living the dream, Braude is, of course, contesting the ticket he got.

A Little Known Latino History Fact on Sonia Chang-Diaz

By Williams35 - 10/24/08 - 6:42 pm

Whether Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner likes it or dislikes it,
Latina American, Sonia Chang-Diaz, is running for the Massachusetts State Senate seat of the 2nd Suffolk District. Sonia could be the first ever Latina to be elected office to the State Senate of the 2nd Suffolk District when she faces current “and outgoing” State Massachusetts Senator, Dianne Wilkerson. Polls are looking good so far for Sonia Chang-Diaz who could make history for the Latino Community and Non-Latino Communities of the 2nd Suffolk District of Boston and Chelsea. Read more

WTKK's Michele McPhee defends Sonia-Chang Diaz

By Williams35 - 10/21/08 - 10:24 pm

Sonia Chang-Diaz, could be on her way as the first Latina-American to become a state senator, representing the 2nd Suffolk District of Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, Jamaica Plain, Mission Hill and others.

Meanwhile, Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner (African-American) blasted the "Soon-To-Be" first ever Latina on her way to becoming the next State Senator; calling Chang-Diaz "A Non-Latina" with no kind of Latino blood background in her whatsoever. Read more

Loud-mouthed New York blowhard gets Boston radio gig

By adamg - 9/29/08 - 4:46 pm

The Herald reports that WTKK has hired Curtis Sliwa to do a three-hour call-in show starting Wednesday night.

Hey, whatever happened to all those Guardian Angels that were supposed to be keeping the Orange Line safe?

In any case, a station mouthpiece read from a script:

We think Curtis will be a huge hit and add a live and local spark to talk radio in New England.

Yes, a real local spark from 200 miles away. Maybe he can commute with Jay Severin. Oh, look, you can already watch him complain about the Cheese Man and make fun of people with Hispanic names. Give me the Guy from Boston any day.

It's not April 1, so it must be true

By adamg - 3/24/08 - 4:53 pm

Menino and McPhee, every Monday at 7 p.m. on WTKK, starting tonight.

Blogger gets James Severin to admit he thinks poor people are smelly

By adamg - 2/28/08 - 9:48 am

David Schrag posts a transcript of his on-air takedown of the blabmeister, and then fisks Jimmy Severino's tirade against him (after he'd bounced him off the air, natch).

Don't worry: Howie Carr still doesn't want to work at WRKO

By adamg - 1/8/08 - 12:40 pm

Scott Allen Miller, late of our local airwaves, spotted him up in Manchester yesterday doing his show while wearing a WTKK button.

How much does Boston talk radio suck these days?

By adamg - 12/28/07 - 6:52 pm

A whole lot.

Herald crime doyenne to replace Bill O'Reilly on local talk station

By adamg - 12/4/07 - 2:44 pm

Joe Keohane has the scoop on Michele McPhee's impending move to WTKK - which recently let her go to make room for tired Don Imus (and pal Barnicle).

Best description of Mike Barnicle

By adamg - 12/3/07 - 9:44 am

See if you can top this (no, of course I don't like him).

Omitting the peskiest of the five W's

By adamg - 11/17/07 - 12:28 pm

So Michele McPhee of the Herald aplogized for what she said the other day on WTKK about gay men and little boys. Dan Kennedy considers the odd Herald story about the apology, which never says exactly what it was that got her in trouble, but which has been reported by other media outlets:

If the Boston Herald is going to report on Michele McPhee's on-air apology for seeming to draw a relationship between homosexuality and pedophilia, shouldn't the paper also report what she was apologizing for?

Herald crime reporter in unfashionable flap over gay men and boys

By adamg - 11/15/07 - 9:44 am

Possible dust-up brewing over what she may have said on WTKK about gays liking little boys. Some think she called gay men pedophiles; she basically says she was talking about the preference of gay fashion designers for stick-figure women with boy-like physiques, although it's hard to say for sure since the reporter of the piece says she said it "off the record" (dude: if somebody tells you something is "off the record," it means they're telling you they don't want it in the story; although you'd think McPhee would know better than to say anything she doesn't want quoted to a reporter).

Could Howie Carr be getting ready to move to Charlotte, NC?

By adamg - 11/13/07 - 10:11 pm

Greater Media, which owns WTKK, recently bought WBT in Charlotte. Brian on Saving WRKO speculates if that could mean a move south for Contract Boy:

... Since a good chunk of New England has already resettled in the Carolinas, why not? ...

Boston's Talk Evolution

By adamg - 9/18/07 - 8:53 am

Save WRKO gets the scoop on how WTKK is revamping itself in preparation for Howie Carr, thanks to some careless Web developer who left up a link to a Web-site redesign (since pulled down).

Airwave shocker: Howie Carr now completely free to rant about Tom Finneran

By adamg - 7/9/07 - 3:41 pm

The Herald breathlessly reports that Howie Carr is abandoning WRKO for the morning drive slot at WTKK, where, as the Herald subtly puts it, he'll be competing against "disgraced, ex-House Speaker Tom Finneran, Carr's longtime nemesis" - who is now left to flop around on what the Herald describes as a weak-signaled pathetic excuse of a talk-radio station (Note to self: Get a nemesis; good for ratings).

OK, Dan Kennedy, who actually knows these things, calls the Carr migration up the frequencies huge breaking media news.

Mike Barnicle finally meets a media opportunity he doesn't like

By adamg - 6/13/07 - 5:06 pm

Jessica Heslam reports Barnicle doesn't want to permanently replace Don Imus on WTKK.
