The Herald reports they'll be going for Chapter 11. Memo to Brigham's officials: "Well-oiled" is perhaps not the best metaphor to use for an ice-cream company.

Both at the South Shore Plaza, at least as of a couple hours ago. Both are on the first floor; one's a full-service restaurant, the other's a smaller ice-cream only place. Both now only take cash.

Unlucky day for Brigham's Ice Cream

Wicked Local Arlington reports that Sheriff's deputies [url=http://www.wickedlocal.com/arlington/news/x206844482/Mill-Street-Brighams-shuttered-on-Nov-13]closed the Mill Street Brigham's on Friday the 13th[/url] after its owner, Deal Metrics LLC of Baltimore, failed to pay rent. The restaurant adjoined the company's now-closed ice cream factory.

Three days earlier, the [url=http://www.universalhub.com/node/28878]High Street Brigham's in downtown Boston was closed[/url] in a similarly abrupt fashion.

Now there are none -- at least none in Boston. The High Street Brigham's in Boston's financial district [url=http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2009/11/11/brighams_boston_store_closing_after_37_years]abruptly closed yesterday[/url], after the landlord evicted it for non-payment of rent. Brigham's also stole several months of health insurance deductions from their employees.

So instead, just head to Somerville on Saturday. EatBoston and Sugarbomber.com have put together an ice-cream smackdown at which local ice-cream makers will compete to see who has the best relief for the heat. The $2 suggested donation goes to a scholarship fund for an area high-school musician.

Opens a "Friendly's Express" in Mansfield that allegedly serves up food at the same speed as normal restaurants, instead of at the glacial pace most Friendly's customers have learned to expect, Channel 4 reports.

Of course, I had to rush home to dish up this news: Roslindale Square is getting another ice-cream place. Jimmies, opening soon on Corinth Street, next to Imperial Kitchen, will also serve food on buns.

Currently, Roslindale residents who need ice cream have to travel down to Belgrade for Select Cafe, the former Emack and Bolios. The cafe, which is more of a coffeehouse that serves ice cream, is currently redecorating a bit - and no longer requires people to ask for a key at the counter for the restroom.
