Update: Northeastern goes even further.

BU announced today that starting March 7:

Face masks will no longer be required in most areas on campus, including dining halls, residential housing common areas, offices, libraries, food courts, and common areas in buildings and colleges. Masks will continue to be required indoors for instructional purposes and lectures in classrooms, the BU Shuttle, all healthcare facilities, and in those venues which are open to the public and host ticketed events.

The Boston Licensing Board today approved a request by the new owner of Steve's Kitchen, 120 Harvard Ave. in Allston, to change the name to Cafe Weekend. Longtime owner Steve Stamos recently sold the place to Juhun Kwak after 37 years of hash slinging.

Boston Restaurant Talk reports the Western Avenue breakfast place is moving to make room for some new development (life sciences, of course), although it hasn't said where. Collier County, FL, perhaps?

The Boston Licensing Board voted today to levy a four-day suspension on Garage, 20 Linden St. in Allston after finding club managers and security staff failed to let police know about a fight inside that may have led to a double shooting minutes later outside on Nov. 15 and that they managed to hinder, whether deliberately or not, a still active investigation into that shooting. Steven Stamos, who has been serving breakfast all day on Harvard Avenue for decades, is retiring, but he's sold Steve's Kitchen to new owners, who plan on keeping it open just as it is.

A not-at-all-sleep-deprived citizen filed a 311 complaint at 4:59 a.m. on Monday to report "overflowing trash and black dildos" at 31 St. Lukes Rd. off Comm. Ave. in Allston. Submitted as evidence was a blurry photo of same (ed note: Which appears to show two of them). Read more.

The Crimson reports Harvard is ordering as many people as possible off campus for the first three weeks of January due to rising Covid-19 cases - 344 among students, faculty and staff over the past week.

Harvard's undergraduate spring semester is scheduled to start Jan. 24; the university says it will "monitor the situation" and decide whether students and professors can have in-person classes or whether they will have to start the semester remotely.

WBUR reports the School Committee voted last night to shut the Irving in Roslindale and the Timilty in Roxbury in June as part of the BPS effort to eliminate middle schools. The committee also voted to shut the Jackson-Mann in Allston, partly for that, partly because the building is physically falling apart.

Dr. Ed spotted the remains of a box truck sitting on Western Avenue after a very, very solid storrowing this afternoon on Soldiers Field Road. Excellent form; only missing disgorged contents, but maybe those were left on the field, um, road.

Dirt bikers and ATVers on the loose

State Police report they are hunting roughly 40 people on dirt bikes and ATVs they say began attacking an 82-year-old Brookline man near the Bowker Overpass, then kept following him as he tried to escape onto Storrow Drive and then beat him when he rolled down his window on Cambridge Street in Allston to yell for help this past Thursday night.
