Prevailing sentiment in progressive haunts is “2016, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.” Between a stressful election season, acts of terror, and the crisis in Syria, many of us will be glad to see the calendar page turn on Sunday night. Still, to every cloud there is a silver lining, and at least when it comes to tackling climate change in the US, Massachusetts was a bright spot amidst the clouds of 2016.
Any hiking trail recommendations in blue hills? seems like there's a lot of options!
Tim Smith took a walk along the former 128 in the Blue Hills Reservation, left over from the days when 128 was cobbled together out of existing roads, before the current road was built a couple miles further out.
WBZ reports on an incident on I-95 yesterday morning. Neither the driver, nor his two young sons, in the back seat, were injured.
Tim the roving UHub photographer took a walk this morning on the only part of the Southwest Expressway that actually got built - a short stretch north of that weird, semi-cloverleaf where 95 joins 128 - from which it was supposed to head north through Hyde Park (with an interchange replacing Paul's Bridge), Roslindale, Jamaica Plain and Roxbury before joining with the Inner Belt roughly where the Ruggles T stop is now.

Transcript of a talk by Joe Bagley, Boston city archaeologist, on the Blue Hills' distant past as a large volcano, and why that became important to the Native Americans who, several hundred million years later, inhabited the area:
I have personally visited, excavated, and studied hundreds of Native archaeological sites throughout the east coast, and I have never experienced the types of intact Native landscapes that can be found in the Blue Hills. We need your vote on November 4 to update the Bottle Bill.
