Never used portion of I-95 in Canton

It's 5:30 p.m. on a weekday on 95 south - where are all the cars? See it larger.

By now, the story of why I-95 doesn't go straight through Boston is well known: Bands of determined residents helped convinced Gov. Francis Sargent we really didn't need a couple of superhighways rammed through Boston, Brookline, Cambridge and Somerville - I-95 and the I-695 "inner belt." Read more.

We’ve heard the gripes about the commuter rail before and I’ve done my share of complaining (see attached) with no results or response so maybe I need a new approach. Some of this we know as a given:

Canton Police Chief Ken Berkowitz has a message for Roger (earlier, the sign warned Falcons fans any fines they incurred would be doubled because they were entering a Patriots Zone).

Prevailing sentiment in progressive haunts is “2016, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.” Between a stressful election season, acts of terror, and the crisis in Syria, many of us will be glad to see the calendar page turn on Sunday night. Still, to every cloud there is a silver lining, and at least when it comes to tackling climate change in the US, Massachusetts was a bright spot amidst the clouds of 2016.

Abandone highway in Fowl Meadow in the Blue Hills Reservation

Tim the roving UHub photographer took a walk this morning on the only part of the Southwest Expressway that actually got built - a short stretch north of that weird, semi-cloverleaf where 95 joins 128 - from which it was supposed to head north through Hyde Park (with an interchange replacing Paul's Bridge), Roslindale, Jamaica Plain and Roxbury before joining with the Inner Belt roughly where the Ruggles T stop is now.

Transcript of a talk by Joe Bagley, Boston city archaeologist, on the Blue Hills' distant past as a large volcano, and why that became important to the Native Americans who, several hundred million years later, inhabited the area:

I have personally visited, excavated, and studied hundreds of Native archaeological sites throughout the east coast, and I have never experienced the types of intact Native landscapes that can be found in the Blue Hills. I do not mean intact as in undeveloped, but intact meaning the actual experience is similar today as it was in the past.
