One of the Back Bay's stately elms toppled over onto the outbound side of Commonwealth Avenue just past Massachusetts Avenue this afternoon. No injuries, but one car was hit. Laurie Thomas surveyed the damage and reported around 6 p.m.: Read more.

The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved a two-wing complex with 151 apartments and 102 condos at 1515-1525 Commonwealth Ave., just up the hill from Warren Street. Read more.

Boston Police report arresting an Acton man they say responded to a woman's demands that he stop and let her out because he'd been acting strangely by climbing into the back seat with her while she screamed to get people's attention because he'd enabled the child-safety locks so she couldn't get out. An Everett man on probation on armed-robbery charges faces new federal charges for a February bank robbery in Allston in which he allegedly used his "big-ass gun" to rob the bank of $5,903.50, steal one customer's car and threaten to shoot another customer's "white ass" if he didn't get in the car with him - which the customer did, but from which he managed to escape after about a block. Live Boston reports the driver of a small SUV hit two pedestrians at 1270 Commonwealth Ave., inbound just before Harvard Avenue, around 7 p.m. on Monday.

Both were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, one of them with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Mike Fedotowsky of Kensington Investment Co., which owns 28 Exeter St., apologizes for those stenciled chalk ads for the building that were sprayed on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall walkway yesterday, and says a crew is going up the mall today washing them away: Read more.

Update: Building owner apologizes, sends crew out to wash the ads away.

Way to make an impression with the neighbors: Several disgusted citizens filed 311 complaints today about the gauche way 28 Exeter at Newbury advertised it has flats to rent - by spraying stenciled ads on the sidewalk of the Commonwealth Avenue Mall. The building went up in 1979, so you'd think the owners would know how their ads would be received in the Back Bay.

One person crushed in the elevator shaft another trapped in the car.

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters made quick work of a rooftop fire at 1027-1033 Commonwealth Ave. in Packards Corner shortly after 1:30 p.m.

Boston tomorrow re-opens the long shuttered Kindred Hospital at 1515 Commonwealth Ave. in Brighton to house homeless people in need of isolation who don't need more intensive hospital care - and will use a Suffolk University dorm for housing the homeless, Mayor Walsh said today. Read more.

The Daily Free Press reports the chain is opening an outlet at 872 Commonwealth Ave. OK, that's really BUville, but it's on the Brookline side of the line near Amory Street, so Brookline will soon have 50% of the number of Taco Bells that Boston has, which is two (one downtown and one in West Roxbury).
