Looking down the Charles River from near the Millennium Park kayak launch today

This was the view down the Charles River at the Millennium Park kayak launch in West Roxbury today.

Here's roughly the same view yesterday, before the afternoon deluge - when you could still walk to the very middle of the riverbed without getting your feet wet - in part via a path made by all the people walking through land plants in what would normally be the river. Read more.

Storm lets loose over Nahant

Joan was at Nahant Beach this afternon when the storm showed up and just burst right over her head. She managed to get a couple of good shots "just before we grabbed our stuff and made a mad dash for the car."

Slow motion lightning strikes as storm rolls into Boston

Gamma Ray Digital posted some slo-mo video from Allston of the storm rolling in along the turnpike.

So far here in Rosindale, we're getting wind, thunder and lightning, but no rain.

Double rainbow over Pleasure Bay in South Boston

It didn't last long, but a wind-heavy storm brought down trees and power lines in Hyde Park and Roslindale and turned Truman Parkway by the Hyde Park Stop & Shop into a lake.

Sprinklers in the rain

A concerned citizen filed a 311 complaint at 12:45 a.m. about the sprinklers going full blast in the middle of a torrential downpour on Lewis Mall in East Boston.

Not sure who controls Lewis mall but please turn off. This grass does not need watering!

Maps showing where raw sewage flowed into the Charles, Mystic and harbor.

Brown indicates raw sewage, blue means treated sewage, green means no sewage released.

The MWRA and the Boston Water and Sewer Commission are reporting that "combined sewer outfalls" dumped raw and treated sewage, along with lots of rainwater, into area waterways overnight because of all the rain - but that the flow means people didn't have to worry about sewage backing up into their homes and businesses.
