As the front came through this afternoon, a gust of wind near Lechmere station took down a street-light pole, which fell on the hood of a car making a turn, after which the light bounced into the street, as Lisa captured.

Yep, a nor'easter's a-brewin' off our coast and will smack into us starting tonight - but don't worry, we're just talking rain here, not snow - although possibly 1 to 2 inches. The National Weather Service concludes:
Bullseye will pass across central and eastern areas, then will shift NE over E coastal areas Sunday morning. May see poor drainage and urban flooding in some normally prone areas.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash-flood warning for Boston and points south through 7:45 p.m. due to radar showing we're about to get blasted with one to two inches of rain in an hour:
As a result, significant urban and poor drainage flooding is expected to rapidly form.
So, you know, stay off Morrissey Boulevard and maybe put off that walk along the Muddy River.
The latest state drought map shows just 0.15% of the state is still in drought, while 52% of the state is "normal," and the rest - including the area around the Quabbin Reservoir - is "abnormally" dry. At the peak of drought conditions last year, pretty much the entire state, save Nantucket, was considered to be in a drought, with some areas in "extreme" drought.

On Oct. 21, 1996, after nearly a foot of rain, the Muddy River overflowed its banks and poured into the Riverside Line tunnel into the T stop.
Today, the T is stocked with sandbags, which workers pile in front of the portal whenever it looks like the normally sedate Muddy River might overflow again. And the current work along the Muddy River is aimed in large part at preventing another flood like that one.

The BWSC's rain tally-o-matic shows Matthew-inspired precip levels for yesterday that range from 1.85 inches in subtropical Hyde Park and Adams Street in Dorchester to 1.49 inches in the Longwood Medical Area and Allston.
Of course, that rain has to go somewhere - like, oh, the Park Street Red Line platform.

The Boston Water and Sewer Commission has six rain gauges across the city and you can see how much rain each has gotten on a daily, monthly and yearly basis. So far this year, Hyde Park has gotten the most rain - a whole 21.58 inches. Neighboring Roslindale, meanwhile, has only gotten 16.58. Both places, of course, are far below the normal amounts.
