People waiting for the Red Line

It's pretty bad when people are camped out on the steps at Downtown Crossing.

A ride on the Red Line became a nightmare after a train developed one of those "mechanical problems" on the inbound tracks after pulling out of Kendall around 7:15 p.m.

Jed Hresko saw the horde recreating a Beckett play on the southbound side of Downtown Crossing, then walked away. Read more.

Empty train at Kendall Square

Tom was among the passengers ordered off an inbound Red Line train at Kendall Square around 8 a.m. because the train just couldn't take it anymore. "Smells of burning rubber/oil," he reported. The T reported the newly ill train caused delays of up to ten minutes southbound.

Jewish protesters and their allies marched across the Longfellow Bridge during the evening rush hour for a protest against companies that sell technology to ICE, including Amazon, whose Kendall Square lobby at 101 Main St. was briefly occupied before police arrested 13 of the Never Again Action demonstrators. Cambridge Police report on an incident shortly before 1 a.m. yesterday in Kendall Square, involving a motorized scooter and a driver who "failed to stop and was observed from a distance operating in a reckless manner while making obscene hand gestures at officers." Read more.

The MBTA reports the Red Line is not quite deader than a doorknob, but it's getting there, this time due to a train with "low air pressure" at Kendall/MIT, which we suspect isn't something you can fix with a bicycle air pump.

Carn turned over in Kendall Square in Cambridge

Carty Castaldi ran across this flipped over car around 8:10 a.m. at 3rd and Binney streets in Cambridge.

Wicked Local Cambridge reports two people were injured in the crash, which involved another vehicle.

Cambridge Police report a woman walking on Loughery Walkway was "struck in the head with a blunt object" by a guy on a bicycle around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday. A passerby found her bleeding from the head and called police. Read more.

The MBTA reports Red Line delays of up to ten minutes due to a train with "mechanical issues" at Kendall that belched a lot of smoke.

Following this morning's delayapalooza on the Red Line, the MBTA reports new delays on the Red Line, of up to 15 minutes, due to a train that kicked the bucket at Kendall. Well, more like a train that got just a tiny bit out of Kendall, then expired, as Tyler E. reports:

Redline 747 sitting at Kendall waiting to back up for >10mins now? Get us off this train, I’ll walk from here, at least that’s reliable.

Blue Bikes in Kendall Square

Blue Bikes, the renamed Hubway, began unleashing its new blue bikes today, as Stephen M discovered on Main Street in Kendall Square. The renaming comes via an infusion of cash from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Also in the works: More bikes and bike-rental stations.

Kendall and Central squares in the snow

A roving UHub photographer sent in these two photos from Cambridge squares this week - on the left, Kendall Square, on the right, Central Square - and wonders why one gets the ultimate plow and shovel job and the other doesn't. The Central Square photo is from Monday, but the photographer reports there are still mounds and mounds of snow there today.
