Serious pearl clutching going on in Boston media circles today. In the Globe, one mother frets about her kids using the word "butt." In the Boston Business Journal, one father frets that his sons are now going to exclaim "suck" all the time now that they heard Tom Brady use the verb in his post-game interview:

Come on, Tom. You're better than that. For the rest of the evening my boys were going on about how Tom Brady sucked today. A bit disappointing, considering how Brady is usually a stellar role model and manages to set a great example and say all the right things. I guess I'll give him a pass on this one, surely he was caught up in the moment and was disappointed in his less than great game.

Go get 'em in the Super Bowl Tom, but remember it's not all about you.

Staties vs. Barstool Sports, blogger vs. old-media blowhard

A couple of Staties visited David Portnoy of Barstool Sports and suggested it might be best for all concerned if he took down the nekkid photos of the Brady kid, if you know what they mean, and they think you do, so he did. At least, for today.

Meanwhile, Glenn Ordway, apparently tired of driving more people to Portnoy's site through his anti-Barstool radiothon, turned his sputtering mike and frothing listeners on Bruce Allen of Boston Sports Media Watch for daring to suggest Ordway just shut up already about the whole thing. Allen returns fire today:

Had WEEI just condemned and moved on, would this story have gotten as much attention as it did? While plenty of other media outlets did pick up on the story, there is no doubt that WEEI's incessant banging of the drum increased the visibility of the story.

I heard you state that the extended discussion of the topic had nothing to do with ratings. That is a boldface lie. Everything done at WEEI is for ratings. Are you claiming that this was some sort of selfless public service you were performing here?

The Boston Police Department has issued an official statement on a collision this morning at Comm. Ave and Gloucester Street between a red Mercury Villager mini-van and a black Audi S8:

The operator of the Audi had no visible injuries and was being evaluated by EMS. He stated that he was operating the Audi on Gloucester Street toward Commonwealth Ave and the traffic signal was green. As he entered the intersection, the minivan crossed into his path from Commonwealth Ave., at which time he attempted to swerve, but was unable to. His vehicle struck the passenger side of the minivan. The operator of the Audi was found to have a current and active MA driver’s license.

Officer observed that the traffic signal light at the corner of Commonwealth Ave. and Gloucester St., located on the center median strip of Commonwealth Ave. had been knocked down, apparently by the vehicles just after they collided.

The driver of the mini-van was cited for failure to stop for a red light and will, no doubt, be hounded for the rest of his life, since the BPD release, longer than that for most murder cases, named him, unlike the operator of the Audi.

One of the two passengers in the mini-van was pried out of the vehicle with a Jaws of Life and taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital in serious condition. Police add a woman walking her dog on Gloucester Street was knocked to the ground by the cars but she declined immediate medical attention.

Tom Brady in Back Bay car smashup this morning

Tom Brady was in a two-car accident this morning at Comm. Ave. and Gloucester Street. Channel 7 has some video which seems to show that the front of Brady's Audi hit the right side of a mini-van. The Globe reports fire crews had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate a man from the rear of the mini-van. Dennis and Callahan report the quarterback refused a trip to the ER.

A spokesperson for Mayor Tom Menino confirmed to WBZ Radio that Brady was in an accident.

Ed. cranky media note: God! Which is worse: That a reporter would immediately think to call the mayor's press secretary about Brady's car accident or that she would immediately know the answer? Does BPD have some sort of protocol for informing the mayor whenever a local celebrity is in a car accident? Also, while it's nice Brady survived, what about the guy who had to be peeled out of the other vehicle?

Yes, a church is going to burn bibles.

The Herald has today's top bizarro story about a guy panhandling to raise enough money to repay the Patriots quarterback for a couple of flowerpots he was convicted of stealing from one of Brady's pied a terres. Guy claims the flowerpots were in the trash; DA and the judge said otherwise.
