I spent the weekend chasing gubernatorial candidates with my camcorder.....produced three video clips....and then I posted them on a video blog that's linked to the Globe's politics page.

I asked the candidates about their favorite music...and I asked Chris Gabrieli about the first concert he attended.....(it turns out his first show was Elvis Costello at the Orpheum in 1978).

There are three clips so far - one each for Reilly, Gabrieli, and Patrick - and they run about five minutes long. It's worth a look!

Specifically: The ones who rent those automated calling things that WON'T HANG UP even when you do. Like the spawn of satan that just called me to tell me to vote for Tim Murray and Deval Patrick.

Or Chris Gabrieli. Especially Chris Gabrieli, because our third grader, who already despises him for his proposal to lengthen the school day or year or decade, now gets so incensed about him whenever one of his ads comes on TV that she starts ranting about him - about how I shouldn't vote for him because of the school thing and his stupid commercials and HIS TELEPHONE CALLS THAT NEVER END. And really, a third grader is just too young to develop an ulcer and I'm getting tired of going "enough already!"

Hub Politics uses a quote from an eight-year-old Watertown Tab article to slam Chris Gabrieli. Blue Mass. Group goes aha - no way could the Margolis Brothers have found that quote themselves, therefore, the Healey campaign is feeding its oppo research to the blog. Bonus: The current editor of the Watertown Tab jumps into the fray.

All twisted into a big, giant endorsement knot

Much gnashing of teeth among the local blogocracy over the recent gubernatorial endorsements of the two local dailies - Globe for Patrick and Herald for Reilly:

Dan Kennedy doesn't get why Globe endorsements never mention the candidates the paper doesn't find worthy (except, apparently, when it comes to the secretary of state race).

John Daley adds up the Globe's Patrick endorsement and the Herald's Reilly endorsement and figures Gabrieli will win next week.

Fitzgerald of the Herald (who had nothing to do with the endorsement), however, says possibly more important than the paper's nod is the fact that many mayors still back Reilly.

On Blue Mass. Group, David thinks the Herald's Reilly endorsement can only help Patrick by drawing moderate voters away from Gabrieli.

Over at the Globe, though, David Dahl goes outside and starts looking for black helicopters, arguing the Herald really endorsed Reilly to help get Patrick the nomination so Healey can then wipe the floor with him in November.

John Daley smacks the Globe for reporting on the controversy surrounding the source of that leaked Marie St. Fleur memo even as it admits in passing that it knows who gave it the document:

... So the Globe knows whether Reilly's vocal and pointed accusations are true or false and they know whether Gabrieli's firm denials are true or false. But we in the public are in the dark on an issue bearing on the integrity and honesty of two officials running for an important office. I thought newspapers were supposed to inform us about these things, not hide them from us. ...

But what did Bill Belichick think of the debate?

Tom Reilly and tax returns

Joan Vennochi writes that Tom Reilly's rejection of Chris Gabrieli as a running mate because he wouldn't release his tax returns and his selection of Marie St. Fleur, who was a tax deadbeat, just doesn't make sense.

Where have I read that assertion before? Oh, yeah, yesterday on Blue Mass. Group.

What is interesting in Vennochi's column is that this is the second time somebody has fed her potentially embarrassing e-mail about Reilly. Somebody seems to have soured on him.

The Outraged Liberal wonders why a columnist is breaking news, not the Globe State House bureau (hmm, for that matter, one might ask why Blue Mass. Group is breaking news, not the Globe State House bureau).

Michael Feldman surveys all the candidates running for governor this year and gets depressed:

... Speaking as a political tout, we can't work up a single calorie of heat over any of these morons. What do they all have in common? Money, ego, ambition, good suits and expensive haircuts, with the exception of Ms. Ross.

What strikes us most as we watch this depressing race shape up, is how little the collection of candidates resembles the legions of voters they hope will lift them to the corner office at the State House come November. Where are the teachers, programmers, butchers, pharmacists, farmers, writers, artists and truck drivers? When did the political class ascend to such a lofty level that only they are allowed to run for office? ...
