The Zoning Board of Appeal yesterday approved plans by Related Beal to replace a self-storage building at 420 Rutherford Ave. with a three-story building aimed at life-sciences startups - although in a pinch, a robotics developer could also rent space there. Read more.

Baker on Orange Line tracks

Baker reports he was glad to, adds: "As of today, 59% of the planned diversion work has been completed, including signal upgrades, track and rail replacement."

Ed. note: We're going to assume he means he walked the tracks (without a helmet) at Community College, unless the T is also using the Orange Line timeout to add a Community Center stop.

State and Boston officials today detailed their latest efforts to provide alternatives for Orange Line riders and Green Line riders north of Boston for the month-long shutdown that starts Friday night - and to caution that eliminating train service that normally handles 100,000 people on weekdays will affect everybody else in the region as well. A judge ordered a former Charlestown High School student now living in Brockton held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on charges related to gunfire that forced the postponement of graduation ceremonies at Charlestown High School in June, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. NBC Boston reports state officials and the contractor still have no idea when work can resume. Work to replace the old bridge came to a halt last fall after the discovery of bad welds in the foundations of what was supposed to be a state-of-the-art swoopy 21st-century span.

Raccoon family skulking around Charlestown

A concerned citizen files a 311 complaint about a family of raccoons roaming the neighborhood (with a note that there are two more raccoons not shown in the photo):

Came in and out of alley way and then moved forward to Hill Street & Cook Street Court.

When the BPDA gave final approval in 2016 to plans to convert the Charlestown Navy Yard's historic Ropewalk building into apartments, the developer agreed to a condition that tenants with cars would have to provide proof they were leasing parking spaces elsewhere, since the building's grounds had no room for cars. Update: Boston Licensing Board determines the tavern did nothing wrong and that the attack was unforeseeable.

The historic Warren Tavern on Pleasant Street in Charlestown rarely has any trouble, but it does have a silent alarm behind the bar, which a worker pressed around 12:05 a.m. on April 3, after some men began beating a man who had asked them to stop pestering a group of women at the bar, police and a bar attorney told the licensing board at a hearing today. WHDH reports the Boston Centers for Youth and Families says it wasn't able to find enough lifeguards to staff pools in the South End, Jamaica Plain and Dorchester. A fifth pool, the Clougherty in Charlestown, will stay closed due to safety issues: Read more.

Terns all over by the Charles River locks and dam

We walked across the temporary North Washington Street Bridge today and couldn't help but notice the large colony of terns dive bombing the water - as a flotilla of cormorants dived well under the surface. And then a guy with several fishing rods in a kayak powered by pedals arrived on scene. Read more.

Boston Police have released surveillance photos of several men and a car wanted in connection with a barrage of gunfire on Polk Street in Charlestown just as Charlestown High School seniors, families and friends were getting ready for graduation ceremonies nearby yesterday afternoon. Read more.

Live Boston reports numerous cars and buildings - but no people - were hit with gunfire during a gun battle that erupted near 50 Medford St. around 10:30 p.m. on Monday.

Police recovered more than 60 spent shells.
