Stop & Shop today unveiled a new logo, which to my untrained, non-graphical-design eye is very similar to the stylized cornflakes logo, if squashed and re-shaped a bit to make it look more like a goose that's gotten trapped in a giant grapefruit.

Stop & Shop says the new logo is part of an effort to make shopping "easier and quicker." That would certainly lend credence to my theory - if you can only buy one thing at the store, you're not going to spend much time there. Channel 4 also reports:

These changes include scanning items as you shop, weighing and pricing produce yourself and creating kid-friendly isles that are free of candy and tabloid magazines.

Stop & Shop to stop selling shark, to try to help conserve the fish. Also gone from Stop & Shop: Orange roughy and Chilean sea bass.

Stop & Shop is recalling tuna salad that might have listeria mixed right in.

Listeria generally doesn't bother otherwise healthy, non-pregnant people, but can cause serious problems in the very young and very old, people with compromised immune systems and pregnant women.

While walking through the produce area of the South Bay Stop & Shop I saw a man in his late-30s to early-40s walk up to the avocados and make the sign of the Cross before picking one.

Boston Police report arresting two Dorchester teens, 15 and 16, on charges they took a shopper's iPod at knifepoint outside the South Bay Stop & Shop around 2 p.m. yesterday.

Police say they found the pair at Columbia Road and Dorchester Avenue - and recovered the victim's iPod.

Amy puts the chain on notice she noticed how they raised prices fairly dramatically one week, then lowered them by a few cents the next week just to put up all these little signs about how Stop & Shop is lowering prices.
