And about time, right? A Boston newspaper reports Marie. St. Fleur is leaving the legislature early (she'd already announced she wouldn't be running again) to take that job for Tom Menino.

Marie St. Fleur told the Ward 15 caucus this morning that she won't run for re-election this fall, the Dorchester Reporter reports.

Carlos Henriquez, who has made two unsuccessful runs against Chuck Turner, could run, Gintautus Dumcius tweets.

Unless she wages a write-in campaign in November against Sonia Chang-Diaz - who unofficial results show is the winner in their rematch for the 2nd Suffolk state senate seat.

Click on the link for other Boston results in today's Democratic primaries, including: In the 5th Suffolk (Dorchester and Roxbury) state rep's race, Marie St. Fleur easily beat back longtime politico Roy Owens, while in the 6th Suffolk (Roxbury, JP and Roslindale), incumbent Willie Mae Allen showed Faustina Gabriel what's what. Over in the 10th Suffolk (West Roxbury and South Brookline), it was incumbent Mike Rush in a cakewalk over Pamela Julian.

Kevin McCrea hears state Rep. Marie St. Fleur in Dorchester this week discussing violence in the city:

... She said that the City has received money from the State, but that the city isn't using the money for police staffing.

John Daley smacks the Globe for reporting on the controversy surrounding the source of that leaked Marie St. Fleur memo even as it admits in passing that it knows who gave it the document:

Kimberly Atkins posts husband Jean Baptiste Lauture's statement on his arrest as a john:

... This has been a very difficult year. My wife and I are presently separated with we work through our marital problems. I apologize for any ill feelings of embarrassment this story may bring to my wife, my children, my extended family and my community. ...

That's Carpundit's reaction to the news that many in Boston's Haitian community still seem to embrace state Rep. Marie St. Fleur despite her (and her husband's) suddenly well known financial improprieties:

... That's a Boston tradition: support the criminal as long as he's your criminal. Those scumbags in Southie seem to have perfected a grand tradition.

Marie St. Fleur to stay in Dorchester, not run for lieutenant governor after all. On Blue Mass. Group, Bob suggests Tom Reilly hold an immediate performance review of his top campaign staffers.

By adamg - 2/1/06 - 11:48 am

Because at the rate he's going, I'm thinking Tom Reilly's not going to be on the ballot in November (and I'm wondering if anybody'd want to change their votes on this poll).

Steve Garfield: Thomas F. Reilly will not be getting my vote for Governnor of Massachusetts:

St. FleurSo Chris Gabrieli is out as Tom Reilly's running mate; Marie St. Fleur, Dorchester state rep, is in, Blue Mass. Group says:

... Well, if that don't beat all. Quick take: this is a bit of an annoyance for Deb Goldberg, whom St. Fleur had previously said she was supporting. This is an interesting change in strategy for Reilly, who has gone in a heartbeat from a really rich white guy to a not-rich black woman as his running mate. ...

Sco remains ambivalent:

... I don't think it will end up mattering that she's Reilly's second choice (unless one of the other LG candidates makes a big deal out of it, and I see no reason why they should), but it still seems to me that Reilly went out of his way to alienate the other candidates for LG, in favor of someone who can be portrayed as part of the Beacon Hill establishment, fairly or not. ...

No such ambivalence at Mass. GOP News:

... Tom Reilly's campaign to be Governor is now officially DEAD. In an effort to name a Boston resident as his running mate while he plays the Springfield outsider, Reilly has hammered the final nail in his own political coffin by choosing Marie St Fleur. This Boston Representative finds herself among the most out of touch and far reaching liberals in the commonwealth. ...

Even some Democrats are thinking pretty poorly of the whole effort (which does not mean that if Reilly gets the nomination, St. Fleur automatically becomes his running mate - that's why God gave the Commonwealth primaries, and there are other candidates):

Carpundit: Tom Reilly Shoots Himself in the Foot in Massachusetts - And We've Got Strict Gun Laws:

Perhaps I'll take a look at Deval Patrick after all.

Andy at Mass. Revolution Now: Why does Reilly hate voters?:

... I can't seem to get over the fact that more people aren't outraged that Reilly has completely passed over four incredibly capable individuals for the LG spot in order to pick who he wants. I don't really care if St. Fleuer is the single most capable individual for the job; Reilly's process is so undemocratic it is sad and more importantly it shows an incredibly arrogant side to Reilly. ...
