Opening Day of the MBTA Columbus Avenue Bus Lanes

The T officially began service today on dedicated bus lanes that run down the center of Columbus Avenue between Egleston and Jackson Squares. The goal is to speed service on the routes that use Columbus - the 22, 29 and 44. The T is now looking at extending the dedicated lanes to Ruggles.

New bus stop going in on Columbus Avenue

One day, that bus will zoom right down the middle of the avenue.

Construction crews have been busy in recent months building new bus stops between Egleston and Jackson squares for dedicated bus lanes and stops that planners say will mean a faster ride to and from Jackson Square and Ruggles on the 22, 29 and 44 bus routes. Read more.

Transit Police report the driver of a 44 bus didn't stop for a flashing red light at Columbus Avenue and Washington Street around 5:45 a.m. and ran into a BPS school bus already in the intersection. Read more.

Roasted chicken

A concerned citizen complains about the stuff he or she is forever finding on a bench along the 44 bus route on Walnut Avenue in Roxbury:

This time it's a whole roasted chicken. BTW the 44 is so slow I think the chicken was alive when it started waiting.
