Eagle-eyed Mark Hurwitz spots a Craigslist posting for jobs at a Five Guys going into a Summer Street location vacated by McDonald's.

In recent years, the chain had opened a number of its burger joints in suburbs surrounding Boston but none in the city itself.

Yeah, I would never utter that sentence, either (for that matter, I no longer even want to eat their "pizza"). But the Boston Business Journal reports Papa's got a new burger, including, apparently, one it calls "the classic."

The Kenmore Square burger joint is OK this morning, but a kitchen in an apartment above it is a bit of a mess: A stove fire brought firefighters racing to the scene last night, although sprinklers had mostly doused the flames by the time they got there, the Daily Free Press reports.

UBurger wants to open downtown; West Roxbury could become more cordial

UBurger, which already sells fresh burgers and hand-cut fries to BU students from two location, plans to open a third outlet on Tremont Street at Temple Place.

The Boston Licensing Board decides tomorrow whether to grant UBurger a license to open between 11 a.m. and midnight seven days a week. At a brief hearing today, the board had no major questions; member Suzanne Ianella, who lives nearby, did ask how much a burger would cost (about $5, depending on toppings, a restaurant lawyer told her).

Meanwhile, out in West Roxbury, the Skara Grill on Centre Street wants to add cordials and liqueurs to its drink menu. The board will also vote on this request tomorrow. The West Roxbury Neighborhood Council and City Councilor John Tobin both say they're in favor.

Just got back from lunch at Mr. Bartley's in Harvard Sq. where Food Network is recording an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. They had fill
lights all around the restaurant and everyone had to sign release forms before leaving. When we left at 12:45, the standard block-long line had formed outside. No sign of Guy Fieri.

Ed. burger note: Addiction is perhaps too strong a word for our patronage at the Dedham Five Guys, but maybe that's because the wife and kidlet are made of stronger stuff.

Out of towner can't stand our local Five Guys

Says both the Foxboro and Dedham Five Guys suck. I haven't been to the Foxboro one, but I think the guy just needs to stop coming to Boston if he's going to get that outraged; the two times we've been to the Dedham Five Guys, it's been great, although I need to remember to get the junior burger because the regular one is huge.

But what do I know? The one guy complaining about the Five Guys posted his kvetching on a burger advice site, whose owner says Boston sucks for burgers in general. Fortunately, we have Menu Pages Boston to uphold our burger honor and list all the good burger places around here; the sort you don't want to tell sneering out-of-towners about because, well, more for us and all that and they clearly don't deserve the finer things in life.

The Transcript reports on a spat at the Burger King on VFW Parkway in West Roxbury: A patron told police that when he asked employees to put on clean gloves, the manager came around the counter:

[T]hrew the victim's money back at him, grabbed a soda cup from his hand and grabbed his wrist.

The manager told police he refunded the man's money and asked him to leave but never laid a hand on him.
