The Supreme Judicial Court ruled today that the state does not have to print Rayla Campbell's name on the Republican ballot for the 7th District congressional seat, because she failed to collect even the reduced number of signatures the court had earlier allowed due to Covid-19 issues. Read more.

Live Boston reports a four-vehicle crash on I-93 southbound near the Bryant Street overpass in Milton early this morning sent at least four people to the hospital and shut the road for an hour. Read more.

The federal EPA is considering whether to designate the Neponset River from Hyde Park to Lower Mills as a place so polluted it requires federal funds and expertise to help clean it up. Read more.

Roving UHub photographer Mary Ellen spotted this purple gallinule in Milton over the weekend. The bird normally doesn't get much farther north than the South Carolina coast - where it uses its giant feet to step "gingerly across water lilies and other floating vegetation" as it hunts for frogs and worms. She reports the people in the house where the bird came to roost are trying to take care of it until it, hopefully, starts heading south.

The MBTA tries to assure Mattapan Line riders that buses are on the way now that the trolleys have ceased to move due to "an overhead power problem," but allows as to how they should expect delays.

The Dorchester Reporter updates us on the T's latest thinking on what to do about the Mattapan Line - which will start with renovating stations, bridges and tracks over the next five to ten years, at a cost of up to $115 million, followed by replacement by the current 1940s-era PCC trolleys with some of the bigger trolleys now in use on the Green Line.

A Milton woman was arrested yesterday on a federal charge that she ran a large-scale retail pot company that offered same-day home delivery and employed 25 people at a Hyde Park warehouse before it was shut down in a raid on Aug. 2.

The Dorchester Reporter reports the collision happened at the Central Avenue grade crossing in Milton around 7:18 p.m. The injured were taken to Milton Hospital.

NBC Boston reports Capt. Timothy Connolly, formerly in charge of District C-11 in Dorchester, was arraigned yesterday on two counts of domestic assault and battery for incidents at his Milton home. Connolly claims she kicked him in the groin.

The Dorchester Reporter reports the T has a $200-million, ten-year modernization plan for the Mattapan Line that includes getting rid of the current PCC trolleys rolled out in the 1940s with versions of the newer, bigger trolleys being rolled out now on the Green Line.

Mattapan trolley at Central Street on Milton/Dorchester line

Byron Nash took the photos of the former Hendries plant at Central Avenue in Milton, which was reduced to rubble to make way for condos. Nash got there on a trolley driven by Tim Murphy after the Mattapan line was started up again after a week-long cancellation due to the demolition.
