A disgusted citizen in Jamaica Plain complains about neighborhood dog owners:

what is up with all the dog crap on the sidewalks in JP? winter is usually bad, with sneaky dog owners leaving layer on layer of crap piles to be covered with snow until the spring thaw reveals what looks like anarchaeological dig gone very wrong. but we haven't had snow and crap is everywhere! can we at least get some signs up, not that i think the troglodyte owner can either read or care. and no, i don't have a photo-- do u really want one?

UPDATE: Dog found safe in Lowell.

Pebbles, a 4-year-old yorkie/chihuahua mix was stolen by two women around 6:30 p.m. at the Cambridge Street Whole Foods as her owner dashed inside to buy some dinner.

Her owner is offering a $1,000 reward for her return, no questions asked. If you spot a little dog with one ear up and one down, send info to bringpebbleshome@gmail.com.

It's a South End twofer. First, a South Ender reports the neighborhood's quaint Sunday tradition of parking in the middle of the street is "out of control," at least, on Warren Avenue, where he or she spotted somebody parking in a crosswalk:

But that's just once a week. Another fed-up citizen complains about the dog park in the Southwest Corridor Park by Carleton:

Please please please please put a huge "NO BARKING" banner in the Carleton st dog park. The park is surrounded by residential units but selfish and inconsiderate dog owners allow their dogs to bark constantly. It's so antisocial. We are woken as early as 6am by barking dogs and sometimes to as late as 1am. Please do something about this. It's driving me mad!

Resident of house with dead, dying pit bulls in basement arrested on animal-cruelty charges

The Dorchester Reporter reports that Tyrone Perry, 44, is scheduled for arraignment tomorrow in Dorchester District Court on charges he ran a dog-fighting arena in his basement.

Perry turned himself in today, police say. Last month, acting on a tip, police raided the basement of his Mather Street home, where they say they found 11 maimed pit bulls, one dead pit bull and 4 malnourished rabbits, along with copious amounts of feces, urine and blood. The Suffolk County District Attorney's office says he will be arraigned on 12 counts of animal cruelty - one for each of the dogs.

Brookline cat attacked by possibly rabid raccoon

The Brookline Health Department is warning residents to stay away from wild animals after a raccoon suspected of having rabies attacked a north Brookline resident's pet in daylight hours - a few weeks after a rabid raccoon was picked up in Jamaica Plain.

Two bats captured in Brookline also recently tested positive for rabies.

Unlike Penelope, at least this pet was on a leash

Man charged with throwing kittens out a window at one of city's most troubled addresses

UPDATE: Judge set bail at $750, declined request by Suffolk County DA's office to revoke his bail on the earlier drug charge.

Boston Police report officers responding to a call about a man throwing kittens out a second-floor window at 102 Blue Hill Ave. in Roxbury early this morning found a man witnesses said was throwing kittens out the window.

Police say officers found two kittens and that a city animal inspector said they were OK.

Earlier this year, the man charged with tossing the kittens, Thomas Gonzales, 47, was arrested on drug-distribution charges just hours before Mayor Menino stood in front of 102 Blue Hill Ave. to declare it one of the most troubled properties in the city and the target of a city task force aimed at cleaning up such places. Between May, 2010 and July, 2011, police responded more than 100 times to calls related to the triple decker.

Doggie warnings go up around paw-burning manhole covers in the South End

Complaining to the Mayor's Hotline gets results. Roving UHub photographer Sean Connor forwarded this photo today of the excessively hot manhole covers on Harrison Avenue, a day after somebody complained one had burned his or her pet's paws.

Court upholds man's jail term for killing cat and tossing its flaming corpse through friend's window

The Massachusetts Appeals Court today upheld the animal-cruelty law used to send Luigi Epifania of East Boston away for 2 1/2 years.

Epifania had appealed his sentence for his 2007 flaming-cat tossing by arguing the cat didn't belong to anybody in particular and so was not covered by the state law, which only covers animals owned by "another person."

More than two dozen Cairn Terriers rescued, to be put up for adoption

The MSPCA reports it's rescued 26 Cairn Terriers from a South Shore hoarder.

The dogs were "filthy, scared and in need of veterinary care," but are expected to recover - half of them are at Angell Memorial Hospital - and be put up for adoption.

The MSPCA did not name the hoarder or town.

Rousted chickens: Zoning board rules hens not allowed in Roslindale or Jamaica Plain

The Zoning Board of Appeals today denied a Roslindale resident's request to keep hens in her Firth Road backyard because city zoning codes expressly forbid poultry in Roslindale and Jamaica Plain - but nowhere else in the city.

City Councilor Rob Consalvo (Hyde Park, Roslindale), vowed to work with Audra Karp to change the regulations that now prohibit chickens in the two neighborhoods - they are allowed with a zoning special permit in other parts of the city. He said it seems to make little sense to have the zoning board, which normally deals with matters such as building heights and setbacks, to deal with animal issues. However, he acknowledged that could be a lengthy process, saying if this were a baseball game, we'd only be in the first inning.

Iguana found in Dorchester bushes

An Animal Rescue League technician tweets:

A strange scaly creature is found in the bushes of a Dorchester home..., hmmm, I wonder what it is...?

The 'strange' animal in Dorchester MA turns out to be an iguana that is claimed by an owner that was searching for him...

No word, yet, however, if this iguana, found on Bullard Street, is the same one that escaped last month from Lawn Street on Mission Hill, a little more than 3 miles away, as the iguana crawls.
