A Suffolk County grand jury has indicted Jacques Merveille, 32, on charges he beat a homeless man with a rock at an encampment near a Copley Square ramp on the Massachusetts Turnpike on the afternoon of April 27, 2017, leaving him needing emergency surgery, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Through 6 p.m., Old South Church will be broadcasting King speeches, in memorial for the 50th anniversary of his assassination. At 6, around the time King was fatally shot, the loudspeakers will fall silent and the church bells will ring in his memory.

The MBTA reports "minor" delays on the Green Line inbound due to a deceased trolley at Copley Square.

An outbound trolley at Copley Square kicked the bucket and now there are "moderate" delays on the Green Line, the MBTA reports. This is on top of problems on the Riverside Line due to an inbound train that died earlier at Reservoir.

A man who allegedly punched a co-worker into unconsciousness last spring and another co-worker who allegedly helped him try to hide what he did - by helping move the unconscious man's body and lying about how the man wound up that way - face arraignment today in Suffolk Superior Court, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. First Night organizers have called off the 7 p.m. fireworks over the Common, and the 6 p.m. parade that was to precede them because it'll be just too damn cold. The midnight fireworks over Boston Harbor, however, are still on, because presumably the totally sober adults who would watch them outside will be smart enough to dress appropriately.

Boston Police report they're looking for this guy on charges he lifted three bottles of Guilty men's cologne (by Gucci, of course) from the Nordstrom Rack on Boylston Street in the Back Bay on Oct. 2.

Christopher lives in Montreal; while in the Boston area, he stays at the Copley Plaza, of course.

Destroyed Boston Coliseum

Post-Gale coliseum.

Today, the folks at the Boston City Archives remind us, is the anniversary of the Boston landfall of the Gale of 1869, a small but powerful hurricane that did major damage to the new Boston Coliseum - built for a "peace jubilee" where Trinity Church and the Fairmont Copley Plaza sit now.
