A Suffolk County grand jury has indicted Jacques Merveille, 32, on charges he beat a homeless man with a rock at an encampment near a Copley Square ramp on the Massachusetts Turnpike on the afternoon of April 27, 2017, leaving him needing emergency surgery, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. The MBTA reports "moderate" delays on the Green Line inbound due to a deceased trolley at Copley.

An outbound trolley at Copley Square kicked the bucket and now there are "moderate" delays on the Green Line, the MBTA reports. This is on top of problems on the Riverside Line due to an inbound train that died earlier at Reservoir.

First Night organizers have called off the 7 p.m. fireworks over the Common, and the 6 p.m. parade that was to precede them because it'll be just too damn cold. The midnight fireworks over Boston Harbor, however, are still on, because presumably the totally sober adults who would watch them outside will be smart enough to dress appropriately.
