Update: Bissonnette and Oringer agreed to change the name of the restaurant to Faccia a Faccia.

When local chefs Jamie Bissonnette and Ken Oringer went before the Boston Licensing Board for approval to open a new Italian place on Newbury Street called Faccia Brutta, which means "ugly face" in Italian, their attorney said they chose the name because they wanted to show that even though they were serious about their food, "they don't take themselves too seriously." The developer constructing a two-building complex along and atop the turnpike at Mass. Ave. says it wants to outfit roughly 118,000 square feet of space as life-sciences labs and offices - about a quarter of the office space originally planned for the project. Read more.

A company that wants to open a marijuana mart on Newbury Street between Gloucester and Hereford this week sued the Zoning Board of Appeal over its decision to deny its request for permission within steps of two other cannabis concerns also proposed for the area. Read more.

The Massachusetts Appeals Court ruled today a three-story mixed-use extension to buildings along Hereford Street are OK despite what it said some glaring errors by a lower-court judge and the city Zoning Board of Appeal, because the project complies with the neighborhood's groundwater zoning. Trinity Financial says it will soon file plans to replace a Harvard Club annex and parking lot along the part of Newbury Street that overlooks the turnpike with two buildings, one 11 stories tall, the other 3, with a total of 133 residential units and three floors of Harvard Club space, including new squash courts and other athletic facilities. The Boston Sun reports Sonder wants to turn the upper floors of 234-236 Newbury St. - the building with the Shake Shack - into a 12-room "tech-enabled" inn.

Shake Shack would remain in place.

Sonder recently withdrew plans to convert an apartment building on Winter Street downtown into executive suites.

The Boston Sun reports chefs Ken Oringer and Jamie Bissonnette are whipping up an Italian seafood restaurant on Newbury Street between Fairfield and Gloucester streets. They already have a deal to buy the liquor license from the former Uno on Boylston Street.
