An Everett developer has proposed adding four floors to an existing three-story building at 601 Newbury St. in the Fenway and turning it into a building with 36 micro apartments and 49 "executive suites" - longish term, temporary housing for professionals on assignment in Boston or out-of-towners on extended visits to the city. A peaceful vigil and protest march from Nubian Square to the State House organized by young black people turned heavily white and violent as night fell. As the protest dispersed from the Common, crowds began streaming towards Downtown Crossing, throwing bottles and then bricks at police officers and cruisers. Read more.

The licensing board held its first Zoomed hearings last week.

The Boston Licensing Board last week approved plans for a bakery cafe in one of the new residential buildings on Washington Street in Jamaica Plain and a cafe and lemonade stand on Newbury Street. Read more.

A man who has already received $5.5 million for traumatic brain injuries suffered in a fight that started as an argument over a bar stool at Sonsie in 2008 could be eligible for even more money under the Massachusetts Appeals Court ruled today that Liberty Mutual tried to delay paying him anything after it had lost one of two court cases because it knew he was in financial duress at the time and figured it could get him to settle for less than he wanted. Boston Police report arresting Gary Dumas II, 25, on charges he tried to slice open somebody else with a box cutter during an argument around 6:45 p.m. on Sunday at Massachusetts Avenue and Newbury Street.

Arriving officers found Dumas and two other men, one of with a freshly opened cut on the back of his neck:

WBZ reports a Chicago company has laid out $40 million for the parking lot on Newbury Street at Dartmouth Street that once had an amazing mural as a neighbor. No word on the new owner's plans, but WBZ notes the company specializes in retail development - and one might assume a company doesn't just sign over $40 million to keep parking cars.
