There are five ballot questions, but only room enough on the first page of the ballot for four of them. You'll need to turn your ballot over to vote on Question 5, which would add a 1% surcharge to property-tax bills to pay for affordable housing, parks and preservation of historic monuments.

The Boston City Council today approved a measure that will ask voters in November to add a 1% surcharge to annual property-tax bills for a fund to pay for more housing for seniors, veterans and low-income residents and for improvements to and expansions of city parks and open space. Read more.

Mayor Walsh said today he'll back a referendum on the November ballot to levy a surcharge on property taxes that could mean $16.5 million a year to help build affordable housing and spruce up and expand Boston parklands - plus additional matching funds from the state.

City Councilors Andrea Campbell (Roxbury) and Michael Flaherty (at large), say that for an average of about $23 per resident a year, Boston would be able to build more housing for people being priced out of the city - and help upgrade city parks and historic sites. Councilor Bill Linehan, however, is not sure he buys it. Read more.
