John Pepper, founder of the Boloco chain, is ripping into the city on Twitter tonight for what happened with the burritos the mayor's office promised bicyclists who showed up at the Hubway bike-rental announcement in front of City Hall today:

City of Boston threatened 2 shut down fed st Boloco b/c City of Boston didn't pull food permit for their own event. We donated 200 burritos.

How a city can thank businesses for supporting its civic efforts with rudeness, threats, and disrespect has us reeling today.

Not staying quiet any longer. Between the union rackets, bureaucracy, red tape, and lack of graciousness it's a wonder anything gets done.

The mayor recently proposed a one-stop Business Resource Center aimed at making it easier for small businesses to get things done in Boston. However, it's part of his budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1.

Stellar Restaurant Group, parent company of the local burrito chain, goes before the Boston Zoning Board of Appeals on Nov. 9 for permission to change a retail shop at 569 Boylston St. into a restaurant.

The Boylston Street location would be ideal for people who feel they can't walk to the existing Bolocos on Newbury Street by Fairfield Street, Boylston Street by Mass. Ave. or Park Plaza by Charles Street.

A couple of months ago, Stellar announced it had raised $5.5 million in equity funding to build up to six new Bolocos across New England.

Used to go to Baja Betty's on Harvard Street in Brookline for the occasional weekend lunch with the toddler son. My favorite burrito joint in the Boston area. Spicy mushroom quesadilla for the adults, rice and beans for the boy. The boy got a sister and got older, the family got busier, so we don't find ourselves in Brookline Village of a weekend afternoon so often.

Imagine my delight to learn that MexiCali Burrito Co., 500 Technology Square (Main Street), just around the corner from my Kendall Square office, is an off-shoot of Baja Betty's, down to the spicy mushroom quesadilla and burrito filling.

Must make up for lost time.

The new Chipotle in Harvard Square gave away free burritos today. Dirty Water took photos of the line, which at times was three blocks long. In the cold and rain. For burritos.

Minor victories

With our neighborhoods increasingly overrun by bank branches, it must count as a minor victory that only half of the former CVS store abandoned when the pharmacy moved across the street is a bank.

The other half is a shiny new branch of the Chipotle chain. They were giving out free burritos at their official opening yesterday. When I rode by at about 6, the line was out-the-door and down to the corner by the Store24.

I'm torn about a big national chain spun off from McDonald's no less down the street from local folks BoLoCo (Boston Local Company). But, at least Chipotle sponsors a cycling team.

Look, you have a choice: You can start eating at the Davis Square Boloco or you can watch it close

Eeka notes a recent 25-cent increase but says the chain could have avoided the increase by turning its thermostats up:

... The past three times I've been in a Boloco, it's been around 65-75 degrees outside and about 50 degrees inside the Boloco. I've sat there freezing my ass off. ...
