Becky reviews local restaurants with gluten-free menus, most recently Bella Luna in Jamaica Plain, whose pizza she found OK, but not really worth the trip from downtown, especially since the cook refused to let her have the soy cheese:

Do you really trust a place that thinks all things soy aren't gluten free just because soy sauce is made with wheat? I certainly don't.

We hear Stone Hearth Pizza opened this week in Barry's Corner and despite predictions from the Allston Civic Association, has failed to turn the area into a steaming pile of rubble, and that even people who are not fans of Duff Beer have eaten there.

A North End diner who didn't think the free meal he got in exchange for a restaurant's mistake was good enough got the place hauled before the Boston Licensing Board today - even though he's now refusing to cooperate with the board or police.

More important, think the Boston Licensing Board could sink its teeth into the idea? On Wednesday, the board hears a request from Sun Pizza, 46-56 Washington St., to extend its walk-in closing time from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. and to let it deliver pizzas to the neighborhood up to 4 a.m.

The board's hearings begin at 10 a.m. in Rm. 801 in City Hall.

The Boston Licensing Board decides tomorrow whether to let Tony's Pizzeria on Fairmount Avenue stay open until 2 a.m. and to give the owner of the planned Drifter Restaurant on Hyde Park serve food until 1 a.m.

City officials, however, opposed the late hours at both establishments.

Residents of a Tremont Street condo building say lengthening hours at Sal's Pizza next door would bring the wrong element back onto the street.

The Boston Licensing Board decides tomorrow whether to let Sal's, open for about nine months now at 150 Tremont St., extend its hours from 10 p.m. to midnight.

The move has the support of the Midtown Park Plaza Neighborhood Association, Suffolk University and most other downtown groups, according to the restaurant's lawyers and Peggy Ames of the neighborhood association, who told the board that residents and Suffolk students and staff are all in need of a later-night pizza outlet (Ed note: Because New York Pizza down the street is too far away, or too deep into Emerson territory?).

But a representative of the condo association at Tremont on the Common said condo owners voted to opposed the added hours. "The neighborhood has really significantly improved over the years" and the residents are concerned about "the type of clientele they might see" at a pizza place open until midnight.
