On Boston Gal's Open Wallet, Jane is puzzled by seemingly contradictory stories: Boston's population is shrinking, yet its rents are rising due to higher demand.

Matt Margolis blames Tom Menino for doing nothing about exploding crime (note to Matt: You might actually want to look at the latest city crime stats before complaining about "exploding" crime rates). Margolis also says he doesn't know how he'll be able to afford to stay in Massachusetts if a Democrat is elected governor.

That's not likely to happen, in downtown, because of historical protection acts and activist neighborhood associations, and not likely to happen, in the suburbs, because of zoning and NIMBYism. ...
