The Washington Post announced today it's hired Globe Spotlight Team reporter Nicole Dungca for its own Investigative Unit.

Dungca becomes the latest Globie to join a southward migration to DC. Read more.

The New York Times reports its hiring three reporters - two currently at the Globe, one formerly there - to staff a new "after hours" news desk. Leaving Boston are Maria Cramer and Michael Levenson, part of the Globe team that won a Pulitzer for coverage of the Marathon bombing. Also joining the new team will be Johnny Diaz, who had previously left the Globe for the Miami Herald.

An Encino, CA man whose lawyers say he was a depressed, pot-smoking senior citizen who spent his days after his son's suicide watching cable news and screaming at the TV was sentenced to four months in federal prison for calling the Globe's downtown offices 14 times and threatening to rape and kill the BU interns who answered the phones and anybody else he could target with one of the many guns in his collection. USA Today reports the owner of GateHouse Media, which owns many of the Boston area's newspapers, will buy Gannett, then rename GateHouse as Gannett.

Meanwhile, the Boston Business Journal reports newsroom and many business-side employees at the Globe will stage a brief walkout tomorrow to protest the way contract talks are going.

WBUR reports the lawyer for the California guy who called the Globe more than a dozen times last August to threaten to storm the newsroom and kill people says the guy now realizes he was a shmuck and will plead guilty in Boston federal court and apologize. Read more.

The Washington Post reports that after deleting a columnist's wish to have pissed on William Kristol's salmon and his don't-do-it-but-do-it urging to restaurant workers to do something similar to Kirstjen Nielsen's food, the Globe surrendered to criticism and pulled Luke O'Neil's online column.

The move leaves us with only Joan Vennochi's column in which she says, yeah, Nielsen is a horrible person, but we should let her speak.

The Globe ran an online column today in which Luke O'Neil called for the permanent ostracizing of Kirstjen Nielsen, ousted as head of Homeland Security for not throwing enough babies in cages.

If you haven't read this New Yorker article about the meteor that may have wiped out almost all life on Earth 66 million years ago, you should, because it's really interesting. The Boston Globe, of course, looked for a local angle - and found it, with a world map in today's print Ideas section (if it's online, let me know, I couldn't find it), with a dot on Boston and this caption:

If 99.9999% of all humans alive were wiped out, only the population of Boston would remain.

We’re looking for a candidate who will provide watchdog coverage of the city police and its new commissioner; write human stories about law enforcement interaction with neighborhoods; and spot trends in policing and crime across Boston.

One requirement: "A high metabolism."
