Mayor Walsh today signed an ordinance raising the fines for parking in resident-only spaces around Fenway Park on game days from $40 to $100 - just one day after the City Council approved the idea.
The increased fine will remain in place through the end of the year - after which city officials will evaluate them to see if it worked to free up spaces for Fenway residents. The $100 tickets will be doled out to cars without resident stickers starting two hours before a game and ending two hours after.

The City Council today approved a proposal to increase the fines for non-residents parking in resident-only spaces around Fenway Park from $40 to $100 during Red Sox games.
Councilor Josh Zakim, who represents the neighborhood, said the measure should help residents with parking stickers who come home to find all the on-street spaces filled with Sox fans - many of whom find a $40 fine a decent price to pay for game parking.
The measure, which requires the mayor's approval, would run through Dec. 31 as a pilot program.

The driver of the 2001 Corolla, 60, was rushed to Mass. General, where she was pronounced dead.

The City Council yesterday approved proposals by Mayor Walsh, that, if they actually go through this time, could lead to major renovations to the Boston Arts Academy, now housed in an old, formerly condemned post-office warehouse in the Fenway and the Josiah Quincy Upper School, housed in a 19th-century former elementary school.

The Herald reports the owner of the Remy's franchise on the waterfront will reopen the shuttered Fenway Remy's in time for opening day - and is planning things such as businesspeople's lunch specials to fill the place during the 284 days a year the Sox don't play at home.

Growing up in Boston, the MBTA Green Line was a lifeline to many activities in the city. My favorite green line station is KENMORE or Kenmore Square - home of Fenway Park and the Boston Red Sox.

High winds are wreaking havoc across the area. Joseph Couture looked out his window to see Boylston Street shut between Jersey and Kilmarnock streets in the Fenway around 7:40 p.m. - as firefighters went to the top of one of the street's construction sites to secure loose items the wind was threatening to send flying.
Fire commanders gave the OK shortly after 8 to re-open the street.

Sgt. Luke Taxter at District D-4 reports somebody tried, but failed to hold up Cappy's Pizza, 82 Westland Ave. at knifepoint around 6:10 p.m. yesterday.
He's described as white, in his 20s, 6'2" and about 180 lbs. He wore a black puffy jacket and a red hat.

The BRA board yesterday approved a revised plan to build a $290-million tower of both condos and apartments at the intersection of Boylston Street and Brookline Avenue, replacing an old D'Angelo sub shop.
Samuels and Associates says its Point project will include a mix of condos and apartments, ranging from studios to three-bedroom units and with two floors of retail space. Some 15 floors of apartments will be topped by 11 floors of condos. The BRA had already approved an earlier version of the plan, which had 30 fewer residential units.

My promotional deal with Comcast just expired and my bill jumped by a HUGE amount. My place is both Comcast- and RCN-ready, but before I switch to RCN, has anybody made the change? I'm just looking for HD/DVR TV, maybe HBO, plus high-speed internet services. Any thoughts/experiences/warnings would be most appreciated!

Seems the driver of a 55 bus couldn't get down a particularly narrowed Fenway street this morning, so he went down another one. And, of course, as Najah shows us, nobody told the people waiting for the bus at Jersey and Queensberry, forcing them to run to Jersey and Boylston to try to catch the bus, literally.

State Bobcat clearing the sidewalk it had just blocked.
Last night, Vasant Marur was out for a stroll along Park Drive when he noticed guys in Bobcats clearing snow from the roadway by pushing it into mounds along the curb, where it promptly rolled onto the previously clear sidewalks, blocking them.
But rather than just take a photo and tweet about it, Marur looked for the supervisor of the operation - a MassDOT guy, since Park Drive is owned by DCR:
I had a friendly chat and indicated that all the snow was falling onto the sidewalk. He was nice about it, stepped out of the truck and realized the problem. They are now clearing the sidewalk as I type this up.
