Transit Police report officers dispatched to the Back Bay commuter-rail station around 6 p.m. on Friday on a report of "a person with a long rifle" found a guy dressed as Boba Fett holding a "replica" gun. Read more.

The Supreme Judicial Court acknowledged today that the state corrections commissioner made a very good case that Martin McCauley, 66, locked up for the way he murdered Carlos Madariaga in an alley off Gloucester Street in the Back Bay in 1981, isn't debilitated enough by serious mobility issues and constant, severe back and nerve pain to warrant medical parole. The Charles River Conservancy has set June 17 for this year's City Splash and One-Mile Swim, during which you'll be able to jump into the Charles from the Fiedler Dock on the Esplanade. Because the event and race have proven so popular, pre-registration for time slots or to enter the race will be required, although the group has yet to set up online pages to do so.

WCVB reports somebody driving outbound on the inbound side of the turnpike tonight slammed into somebody head on just before the Pru tunnel, then managed to disengage from that and keep going, hitting more vehicles.

Liz Gotthelf came down from Maine to take in Nathan Sawaya's the Art of the Brick exhibit on Newbury Street - 70 sculptures made from Legos - which she writes was well worth the two-hour ride (on the Downeaster from Maine) and $28 admission

A Prudential Center-based firm that helped Twitter sue Elon Musk when it seemed like he was backing out of his $44-billion takeover is suing the company for the $2 million in consulting it says it provided that the Musk-owned social network is now refusing to pay. Read more.

Two Louisiana residents yesterday sued the MBTA and escalator company Kone, Inc. for the injuries they say they suffered when an escalator they were riding up from the commuter-rail platform at Back Bay suddenly reversed, sending people hurtling back to the platform in a heap on Sept. 26, 2021.

Cone atop the Charles River off the Mass. Ave. bridge

Remember last year when the state used traffic cones to mark off some bike lanes on the Mass. Ave. Bridge and somebody didn't like them and tossed them onto the frozen Charles River? A roving UHub photographer discovered today that some low-energy bike-lane hater tried to replicate that, only gave up after just one cone.

So far tonight, burst pipes caused by the sudden freeze have forced three hospitals to send patients elsewhere, left Wang Theatre patrons out in the cold, angrily yelling to be let back in, and flooded a floor at the Prudential Center mall. Read more.
