Daniella Torres reports on a crash around 3:15 p.m. at the Back Bay intersection:

Just saw/heard terrible hit and run with a bike and a red (maybe gray trim) SUV at intersection of Mass Ave and Boylston.

Walking across street, heard crash, saw biker fly in air. Crowd (not me) got license plate, stayed until ambulance came.

Biker was in severe pain (head/leg) but talking. Guy in crowd made sure he didn't move his head & comforted him.

Jumping into the Charles River off the Esplanade

There were ropes and floats marking off the swimming area. Out in the river, a DCR patrol boat kept watch to make sure other craft stayed well away. Lifeguards on the dock and in kayaks stood and sat at the ready. And shortly after 3:30 p.m., the first band of swimmers, from kids to retirees, began jumping into the Charles River from a dock on the river side of the lagoon.

The Charles River Conservancy's first CitySplash let people sign up for time in the Charles River which, as we all know, used to be pretty dirty, but which has gotten cleaner over the years. Read more.

Buses backing up on Berkeley

Lenny Rowe reports a convoy of seven Indian Trails buses was headed straight for a storrowing tonight. Fortunately for the passengers, however, the drivers of the two buses that actually close enough to Storrow to realize the doom that awaited them stopped in time and managed to back up on Berkeley. Unfortunately for all the other drivers in the area, that caused a backup.

I may be wrong but I think New Jersey has the same no parking in front of hydrant laws. I watch them park this car on Marlborough St and just walk away. At first I thought they would be quick (still not cool) but an hour later they came back to check on the car and left again!
