Four South End civic groups are holding an emergency meeting tonight on "the surge of gun violence in our neighborhood."

In a seven-day span, the South End experienced three shootings, including a fatal incident in the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 9.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the South End House, 48 Rutland St.

UPDATE: Police identify the victim as Wellington Ruiz, 25, of Dorchester.

Around 1:30 a.m. on Aguadilla Street, Stanley Staco reports. Boston Police report the man, in his 20s, was found outside 17B Aguadilla and was transported to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Izzy the life-saving dog

John Hanzl recounts what happened this morning with his dog, Izzy:

Woke us up this morning (5:20am) whining, when she never does. So I took her out (live in ancient loft on top floor in south end and only people in building). Was confronted with overwhelming smell of gas on way outside. So called 911 - we are friends with firemen at the Eagle. They came - long story, building main electrical feed was shorting downstairs. and the arcing was causing ozone, that Izzy smelled and saved our lives.

Earlier this month, we posted a photo of a stuffed bunny that had been left behind at Mistral in the South End.

Mistral reports today that, thanks to social-media postings, rabbit and owner are back together again - a friend of the family saw one of the photos and let the family know where to find the fuzzy critter.

Lost bunny at Mistral Bunny

At brunch on Nov. 8, somebody left behind this obviously well loved bunny at Mistral in the South End. The restaurant reports they're keeping the rabbit well fed, but would love to reunite bun and owner.
