Double rainbow over Pleasure Bay in South Boston

It didn't last long, but a wind-heavy storm brought down trees and power lines in Hyde Park and Roslindale and turned Truman Parkway by the Hyde Park Stop & Shop into a lake.

But after it was all done, Pleasure Bay in South Boston got a double rainbow, as photographed by David Geller. Read more.

MassDOT reports it shut the River Street bridge over the train tracks to vehicle traffic today after "bridge inspectors identified beam deterioration during a routine and fracture critical inspection." Read more.

The Texas developer that wants to turn a wooded hillside on American Legion Highway on the Hyde Park/Roslindale line into a nine-building apartment complex has filed new plans that call for a bit less asphalt, a bit more greenspace and some additional affordable units - along with a substantial reduction in the number of parking spaces. The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved plans by two physical therapists to turn what used to be the Quality RX Pharmacy on River Street near Hyde Park Avenue into a function hall specializing in weddings, graduations and similar events. Read more.

About 75 residents gathered along American Legion Highway near the Walgreens to oppose a Texas developer's plans to carve away a big chunk of the hillside and ledge there for a complex with 270 apartments in nine low-slung buildings with 415 parking spaces. Read more.

Gretchen Van Ness reported this morning that the traffic lights on either side of the Neponset were out this morning - including at Fairmount Avenue and Truman Parkway, where Eversource reports a "vehicle accident" took out the power.

They've already screamed their lungs out at the young children of the mayor, so the anti-vax brigade decided to mix it up this morning, by going to City Councilor Ricardo Arroyo's mother's house in Hyde Park and screaming at her even though Arroyo himself no longer lives there - and was not there this morning. The Dorchester Reporter reports on today's official designation of the 3.7-mile stretch from the Mother Brook in Hyde Park to Boston Harbor, due to elevated levels of polychlorinated biphenyls from decades of the river's former use as a dumping ground for a variety of factories along its banks. Boston Police report arresting Nyshiem Shaw, 20, of West Roxbury, on charges he responded to some perceived traffic slight on Chittick Road in Hyde Park last month by opening fire, blowing out the rear window of another car and leaving the street littered with bullets between Loring Street and Truman Parkway. Lowkey Dispensary holds a meeting next week to introduce its plans to convert what is now a warehouse at 48-54 Walter St. in Hyde Park into a grow facility for the proposed dispensaries it has permission to open in Dorchester's Codman Square and wants to open on Washington Street in West Roxbury. A federal judge today sentenced Lutherson "Boogs" Bonheur of Brockton to 19 years in federal prison for a variety of drug-related charges, including fatally shooting a customer outside an apartment building on Huntington Avenue at River Street in Hyde Park, the US Attorney's office reports. WFXT reports BPL librarians are planning a "unity gathering" to support children's librarians at the Copley Square and Hyde Park libraries who have had to deal with wide-mouthed adults who insist they and their spawn have the right to breathe at other patrons in the children's room.

Update: Police say the incident was road rage, not a gun battle; arrest made.

Around 2:10 p.m. on Chittick Road headed towards Truman Parkway, according to the Hyde Park Facebook group. One car, with a shot-out rear window, was found on Truman Parkway at Dana Avenue. Police have found numerous spent shells on Chittick between Loring Street and Truman Parkway.

The Boston Licensing Board today approved a liquor license for Park 54, a restaurant planned for 81 Fairmount Ave., in Hyde Park, where the Fairmount Grill, and before that, Townsend's, used to be. Read more.
