Update: Suspect arrested.

Live Boston reports a man and a woman were shot inside Mello Vibez, 473 River St., next to Macumba Latina, in Mattapan, around 11:05 p.m. on Saturday. The woman was taken to a local hospital with injuries serious enough to have the homicide unit called in; the man, who had a gun on him, was less seriously injured.

New District 4 (Dorchester, Mattapan, bits of Roslindale and JP) Councilor Brian Worrell is offering $10 gift certificates to Fields Corner's Chill on Park to anybody in his district under 18 who sends in a photo of a hydrant they've shoveled out. Worrell credits former District 6 (JP, West Roxbury, Mission Hill) Councilor Matt O'Malley for the idea.

Boston Parks and Recreation recounts the story of a column in Mount Hope Cemetery, off Walk Hill Street, that marks the grave of John Edward Kelly, who was born in Kinsale, emigrated as a child with his family to Boston by way of Halifax, Nova Scotia, went back to Ireland to participate in the 1867 uprising, was sentenced to death, had his sentence commuted to banishment in Australia - to which he was transported on a ship with John Boyle O’Reilly - then made his way back to Boston after he was released from five years working on a road gang.

The Dorchester Reporter reports the city has started replicating its Nubian Square vacant-lot process along Blue Hill Avenue, awarding eight lots between Morton Street and Franklin Field to developers who proposed affordable housing and retail space. The city has 22 more empty lots along the avenue it plans to designate for development.

The Dorchester Reporter talks to state Rep. Russell Holmes (6th Suffolk) about how he now drives around the two neighborhoods former BPD captain Haseeb Hosein and wire cutters to take down the signs offering cash for diabetics' test kits and other supplies.

"They are absolutely preying on our communities and on Black people in particular," said Holmes.

The Boston Licensing Board heard details today of a pair of violent, and likely related, incidents at Macumba Latina, 477 River St. that left a patron with with his right forearm slashed open and a man in the parking lot across the street lying on the ground after getting hit in the head with a baseball bat. The Dorchester Reporter reports that Wilkerson is considering a run next year now that incumbent Sonia Chang-Diaz, who defeated her in the Democratic primary in 2008, has taken herself out of the race so she can run for governor.

The Dorchester Reporter reports the Boston Landmark Commission recently voted to make the Massachusetts Tribe's Mattapan Rhyolite Quarry, behind St. Angela’s Church along Babson and Cookson streets, a "pending landmark." The tribe used the spot to dig out rhyolite, "an ancient volcanic stone prized for its banded maroon color and ideal qualities for making stone tools."

Live Boston reports a man sitting in a car on Baird Street, near Blue Hill Avenue, was shot in the head shortly after 7:30 p.m. Because of the severity of the victim's injuries, the homicide unit was called in.
