No power in Charlestown

UPDATE: Eversource estimates the power in the affected part of Charlestown should be back on by 3:30 a.m.

At 10:08 p.m., Rachele Pojednic reported it had actually been more than two hours without power in Charlestown, with no end in sight.

Readville also lost power for three+ hours earlier in the evening.

Car with no wheels and obscenities scratched on it in Charlestown

When Rob O'Brien spotted this car without wheels in Monument Square in Charlestown tonight, he thought it might be related to another wheel theft in the area a few weeks ago. But then he noticed the keying and the "Fuck You" scratched into the paint and wondered if maybe this one was personal.

Snapping turtle in Charlestown

EastieStrong spotted a very large snapping turtle in the grass this evening on Old Landing Way, near the ball field and Medford Street, in Charlestown - nowhere near any fresh water that is its natural habitat.

Animal Control won't come get it. It's far away from natural habitat. Likely dumped.

Shortly before 8 p.m., a train crawled into a hole at Sullivan and refused to come out, causing the dreaded "severe" delays.

Meanwhile, a Green Line trolley died at Boylston and a Red Line train flatlined at Porter. But at least the Blue Line kept things snappy.

Residents can get info and comment on Boston Police's plan to outfit up to 100 officers with body cameras in May at meetings tonight and Thursday, organized by the City Council's Committee on Public Safety and Criminal Justice.

Tonight's session starts at 6 p.m. in the Charlestown High School cafeteria, 240 Medford Street. Thursday's also starts at 6, at the First Parish Church of Dorchester, 10 Parish St.

Guy on I-93 exit ramp in Charlestown

A concerned citizen, who took this photo in his or her rear-view mirror, expresses the hope somebody can get this guy off the ramp from I-93 to Sullivan Square before he gets flattened:

This guy is always asking for change on the exit ramp and he's going to get killed one day because someone's gonna fly down here. Please have him stopped.

Buried in a Globe story about how the Allied War Veteran's Council is looking to sue the city over the route of the St. Patrick's Day parade in South Boston (something they know quite a bit about) is this statement from the mayor's office:

Boston police are considering changes to the routes for the Dorchester Day Parade and the Bunker Hill Day Parade for public safety reasons as well, the statement said.

32 Cambridge St. in Charlestown proposed development

A downtown developer has filed plans for a 171-unit, two-building complex where Cambridge Street and Rutherford Avenue come together.

In plans filed with the BRA today, Berkeley Investments says it will gut and rehab the Graphic Arts Finishers building at 32 Cambridge St. and replace a second building at 572 Rutherford Ave. for a new development it says will knit an existing neighborhood to the south with the Sullivan Square T stop.
