A sweltering citizen complains about the weather, wants the city to do something about it:

It's too hot. Please ask the dpw to turn down the sun. Ask the Mayor to allow Thunderstorms.

UPDATE: City marks case closed:

Case Noted. Requests filed but difficult to fulfill as [city of Boston] has no jurisdiction over sun/rain. i hope this info is helpful.

From West Roxbury to East Boston, Nstar cables and transformers failed last night, plunging residents into steamy darkness.

"Faulty equipment" sparked an outage in the Centre Street corridor from West Roxbury into Jamaica Plain last night.

On Prescott Street in East Boston, Kathy Bui reports power went out around midnight, finally came back around 5:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for eastern Massachusetts starting tonight through 8 p.m. tomorrow, what with more heavy rains expected tonight.

Devastation after the Worcester tornado

June 9, 1953 was hot and humid. The weather bureau predicted thunderstorms, some possibly severe, for central Massachusetts. It got those storms - and an F4 tornado that touched down to the northwest of Worcester, creating a trail of death and destruction that ended only at the Framingham line, after the Fayville post office was flattened. In all, 96 people died that day.

High winds yesterday proved too much for several trees in Boston (or as the Globe put it: More than 3 trees), including this one on Comm. Ave. between Dartmouth and Exeter in the Back Bay.

The Worcester Line has trouble in cold weather. It also has trouble in warm weather - the MBTA just announced speed restrictions on the line because of the high temperatures.
