From the Big Y in North Quincy to the Roche Bros. in West Roxbury and the Stop & Shop in Dedham, area supermarkets are jammed with residents realizing they need milk, eggs and bread.

Also, getting word from Jenny M. that while the Brighton Whole Foods has plenty of milk and bread, they are OUT OF BANANAS! Read more.

Prevailing sentiment in progressive haunts is “2016, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.” Between a stressful election season, acts of terror, and the crisis in Syria, many of us will be glad to see the calendar page turn on Sunday night. Still, to every cloud there is a silver lining, and at least when it comes to tackling climate change in the US, Massachusetts was a bright spot amidst the clouds of 2016.

We spotted about a half dozen turkeys, including these two, roaming Grouse Street at Washington this afternoon.

The Zoning Board of Appeals yesterday approved tearing down the long abandoned gas station on Belgrade Avenue off West Roxbury Parkway to make way for an 18-unit condo building with 33 parking spaces. Read more.

Hizzona signed an agreement letting Verizon offer TV channels and the company says it begins cabling up homes in parts of West Roxbury, Roslindale and Dorchester tomorrow - with Dudley Square by the end of the year. The move means parts of Boston now have three main broadband/TV/phone providers: Verizon, Comcast and RCN; Verizon says it will roll out FiOS to the entire city within six years.

BPD District E-5 is reporting seven Toyotas and Hondas in Roslindale and West Roxbury have been stripped of their tires since Nov. 7.

In a neighboring town, police say, a Sprinter-style U-Haul was spotted near where five cars had their tires and rims removed.

The Jamaica Plain Gazette reports neighbors of the proposed 64 Allandale St. subdivision are still blasting it even after the developer lopped 2 units off the 20 she'd originally proposed. Too dense for something right next to Allandale Woods they say.

The BPDA had already approved the 20-unit proposal; the change means it will have to vote on it again - and after that comes a hearing before the Zoning Board of Appeals.
