Aw, how cute: Catholic Memorial fans scream at Jews that they killed Jesus

The Washington Post (!) reports Catholic Memorial fans really showed that old school spirit at a basketball game in heavily Jewish Newton last night in a game against Newton North (played at Newton South):

[A]n estimated 100 young men sitting in the student section cheering for Catholic Memorial shouted, “You killed Jesus, you killed Jesus,” according to several witnesses who asked not to be identified. Most of those chanting fans wore red shirts as a display of support for their team. Some of the witnesses, who were Jewish, said they found the chant alarming.

Their outburst came the night after Cardinal O'Malley went to a Newton temple to celebrate the 50th anniversary of a Vatican statement saying Jews were not responsible for killing Jesus.

State upholds order that could shrink size of city's first proposed superstorm-resistant subdivision

The Bulletin reports the state Department of Environmental Protection upheld a city determination that a proposed 20-unit project off Allandale Street is subject to wetlands regulations.

The move could force a reduction in the size of the proposed two-acre development, whose developer says it would generate more energy than it consumes and would consist of units able to withstand a mega-hurricane.

Power's out in the Running Brook Road/Edgemere Road area along Washington Street. Sounds like a transformer went kaboom. The traffic lights at Washington and Grove are out.

UPDATE, 8:45 p.m. A manhole at Washington Street and Woodley Avenue began to smoke.

Cosby reports he was out enjoying the nice weather in West Roxbury this afternoon when two guys got out of a refrigerator truck with New York plates and asked if he wanted to buy some discount meat.

Boston to rejoin active legal battle against West Roxbury pipeline

The Globe reports Boston will go to court to appeal a recent federal ruling dismissing arguments by the city, several elected officials and West Roxbury residents that the West Roxbury pipeline should be stopped.

Less than a month ago, an aide to the mayor was telling West Roxbury residents the pipeline was a done deal and that the city was confining its efforts to begging Algonquin Gas Transmission to hold a meeting to show depictions of its planned gas transfer station at Grove and Centre streets, where gas from the high-pressure pipeline would be fed into National Grid's system. West Roxbury residents last night pleaded with a mayoral aide to have Mayor Walsh use his bully pulpit to continue the fight against the West Roxbury natural-gas pipeline, but the aide told them that ship has sailed and now City Hall is focusing on getting the pipeline construction company to come to a public meeting to describe the exact size and scope of the "metering and regulating station" at Grove and Centre Streets. Many of the residents who attended a BRA get-together on a 138-condo complex proposed for Baker Street where it crosses the Needham Line opposed the idea, saying that's a bad location for so many cars - 210 parking spaces proposed- and worrying about the effect on already oversubscribed local BPS schools, according to Tim Sullivan, who attended the session at the West Roxbury Elks. He added a number of residents expressed doubts the BRA would really listen to their concerns.

Residents who attended a meeting tonight on a 16-unit condo proposal for the old West Roxbury Motors site generally gave a thumbs up to a proposed design that eliminates an earlier exterior that residents found too modern for the area, too much like something built out of Lego bricks.

But when one resident questioned why the single ground-floor commercial space would be made off limits to a restaurant or coffee shop - in a building that would be across the street from the neighborhood Starbucks - other residents said that wouldn't bother them, because that stretch of Centre Street already has at least ten vacant storefronts.
