Fluid situation on the Green Line

The MBTA says the outbound E is stopping at Brigham Circle because of "fluid on the tracks" on South Huntington. MBTA Transit Police report it's diesel fuel, which affects the trolleys' traction and makes it harder for them to start. Also, there's a train that doesn't want to move at Government Center, causing what the T says are 10-25 minutesdelays.

There's this material called SAND, which has been used on railroads for years to give vehicles traction. But I guess building up your case to drop streetcar service beyond Brigham Circle is more important than actually serving passengers.

On another note, much of the outbound platform at Boylston was roped off in caution tape this morning, causing people getting on and off trains behind the front door of the first car to walk in the two and a half foot space between the columns and the track. The reason - somebody decided it was essential to paint the floor of the station (as evidenced by that lovely nauseating latex smell that hit me as I got off my train).

The wet paint was there last night, actually, too. I mean, I guess they have to repaint it sometime. Smelled like hell though.

wasn't peeling or anything like that. And there was no legitimate reason to make morning rush hour inconvenient for passengers (not to mention the potential safety hazard of having passengers in close proximity to the platform edge) when waiting until Friday night to paint, leaving all weekend for it to dry, would have sufficed.

Chalk another one up "for the safety and convenience of our employees and contractors".

My bad, the previous night it was only roped off to the columns so it wasn't any worse than getting off the train at Government Center. Last night it was pretty much to the yellow line. Not cool.
